Following on from a previouse thread about Cyprus or the UK......... I would like to gauge the reactions of members as to whether 'Land of hope and Glory' still or ever did raise the hairs on your arms and turns you into a passionate patriot, or whether Blair/Brown & Co have turned the UK into some where we all want to leave. If it does still bring on a stirring inside of you can you let me know why? Cheers Jimmy

Jimmy Despite Blair/Brown turning England into a cesspit I am still a passionate patriot. Wackyjim Why not have "A Scottish Soldier" All our Mps will know it well seeing as the English Parliment is run by Scots.( tongue in cheek).

Last night of proms; Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance I think for the majority, it is a reminder of 'what was' Jim, I think that large county in northern most Britain that many confuse for Scotland would be better sticking to one of the Krankies classics for an anthem

last night of the proms .....land of hope and glory and Jerusalem wow that does it for me.............. And did those feet in ancient time Walk upon England's mountains green And was the holy lamb of God On England's pleasant pastures seen And did the countenance divine Shine forth upon our clouded hills And was Jerusalem builded here Among those dark Satanic mills Bring me my bow of burning gold Bring me my arrows of desire Bring me my spears o'clouds unfold Bring me my chariot of fire I will not cease from mental fight Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand 'Til we have built Jerusalem In England's green and pleasant land 'Til we have built Jerusalem In England's green and pleasant land

Well Jimmy, If you had asked me that 10 years ago you would have a definate yes, red wiite n blue through n through. It hurts to think there are good men in the likes of Afganistan and Iraq putting there necks on the line for the cess pit Blair and his crew have turned our once proud nation into. I would stand and sing the song for happy memories of what England once was and for the people who made it what it was. But would then have to sing the banana boat song and a couple of rap numbers to keep the PC brigade happy.

Hi Wackyjim and Wyn, How about Campbleton Loch I wish you were whisky? Seriously I used to be patriotic and love all those songs but as Britain is no longer great and is losing her identity, I will feel no sadness when I finally close the door on her for good. It can't come fast enough. The Butlers wife

Yes, Land of Hope and Glory does make the hairs stand up on my arms and brings a lump to my throat, I am proud to be British but saddened and ashamed at the way this country has gone. The do gooders and the PC brigade have turned us into a laughing stock/ dumping ground for the rest of the world, the government have taken away parents responsibilities to their children so that respect and discipline are dirty words hence yob culture rules on the streets, how many more youngsters have got to die through stabbings before something is done, as usual there is plenty of hand wringing but no real deterrent on offer. I keep thinking we,ve hit the bottom but I,m not so sure now.

I had even left a couple of Donkey stakes for you and John. I think my builders a lovely lad. I dont know whats the matter with you wingeing Brits! Homeward bound to be ruled by that Motley Bunch of expense fiddling Scotsmen. Wacky it seems to be endemic north of the Border. Isnt what you are proposing for me, called Special Rendition?.........cause thats what I did to your Donkey...(rendered it down) wyn. |

Always used to say I was proud to be English, the country of my birth and of my ancestors. Please note, ENGLISH I hate the British thing which seems to be what the PC lot tell us we are, unless of cause you are one of the Cletic breed then it is oK. That said, Last Night or the Proms was always brilliant but that is being spoilt by th PC crowd, too much sabre rattling etc. One that has not been mentioned so far to go with Land of.... and Jerusalem and that is Rule Brittania. All spine tingling things to make you stand tall and be proud.

Surely no one cannot be stirred by Land of hope and Glory as presented at The Last Night of the Proms. Regrettably it is no longer appropriate. I regret that I am with hattikins, on this one. wyn How about......I vow to thee my country...................now then!

This shower called the UK government would ban anything patriotic if they could - having worked for Lambeth Council in the loony 80s days, those that were then councillors are now in goverment; the UK is now like Lambeth used to be where you were afraid to speak your mind, your cards marked as extreme right wing if you were seen reading the Daily Mail, the Guardian was the order of the day hence Littlejohn's guardinista comments and my god if you were caught whistling "Land of Hope and Glory" it was a capital offence. No my friends the UK has gone too far down the line by allowing this traitoresque lot get their way - why don't you think they recognise St George's day but honour other patron saints? under that charade of New Labour they want us in our so called places, like automatons spouting their policies and singing to their tunes. A bit heavy for Saturday I know!

Some humour! No offence to my fellow Scots! An Israeli doctor said, 'Medicine in my country is so advanced, we can take a kidney out of one person, put it in another, and have him looking for work in six weeks.' A German doctor said, 'That's nothing! In Germany, we can take a lung out of one person, put it in another, and have him looking for work in four weeks.' A Russian doctor said, 'In my country medicine is so advanced, we can take half a heart from one person, put it in another, and have them both looking for work in two weeks.' The English doctor, not to be outdone, said 'Hah!. We can take an arsehole out of Scotland, put him in 10 Downing Street and have half the country looking for work within twenty-four hours
