Should be very small, anything that generates heat is high, fans typically under 50 watt... No heat to speak of.

Our small bedside fans are only 12 watt and they keep us cool as a cucumber...

You could use the generator to keep a large 12v car battery topped up, and through an invertor giving you mains voltage, run a normal mains bedside fan. Most fans are no more than 60 Watt, so a large car battery of about 70Ah will be fine (The battery should not be deeply discharged - 60 watts for 8 hrs will take it just over 1/2 discharged. If you can buy a leisure battery here then get this instead of a car battery(They have more plates and withstand deep discharging better) (200w is fine, costs about £35 in the UK)

peeky,

Good idea!

Anyone who finds themselves overheating during power cuts could do the same thing - except that they could run the charger straight off the mains supply, then if the power failed in the night, the fan would carry on running, uninterupted...

I believe that 'Silent Power' market a more sophisticated version of this - Sorry Henrik!

If anyone wants to buy an Invertor I've got one for sale. It has a car cigarette lighter connector at the input end and two outlets for 220 - 240 volt.. 200 watts. New unused... £20...

Probably cheaper [in TRNC] to employ a 'Panka-Wallah'!

Hi Groucho

Would this inverter be ok for my fans then. Obviously Ive got to purchase a battery. Can you give me a Janet and John style instructions as to how the inverter plugs into my geni and how I make the battery charge. And then when I want the fans to run what am I plugging them into?

Petsitter,we were on a genny for 2 years,I bought a 2 stroke 650 watt genny that just powered the fans and fridge during the night, worked a treat for us,another option for you.

You don't plug the invertor to the genny, you connect it to the battery, which is charged by a battery charger. The battery charger is best connected like Keith says, to the mains, but if without mains, then to the genny.

Petsitter, Peeky's right you attach the invertor to the battery to convert 12v DC back into 220 -240v AC.

You would need to remove the car lighter plug end and attach a couple of crocodile clip to enable you to wire it up to the battery's terminals.. simple job.

So fan to invertor - invertor to battery - battery to charger - charger to mains. A normal 12v car battery will have days of power for a fan when the mains is off - no need for a generator in the loop....

oh well Groucho I guess the inverter has been sold by now.

Someone suggested I buy a small solar panel to charge the leisure/car battery during the day, instead of the geni.

Where can I buy a leisure battery in Cyprus?

I will put the inverter in my car. £20 or 46 TL which ever suits...

Today I researched in getting a solar panel to charge the battery. The guy read Peaky,s post and said the workings out were not correct. One fan would discharge a battery more than quoted and also I would need a 400 watt invertor. I would need a battery that gives 120 Amps and not 70. A fan is more than 60 he said but of course I need to check my fan.

The system for the solar panel to run 1 fan and 1 light is too expensive......3000 USDollars. If I purchased just the marine batteries I would need 3 and they are 240 USdollars each but someone advised my geni (on say 6 hours a day) would not be enough to charge the batteries.

thanks for the info. Im not sure now if your 200 watt invertor would be high enough please read my message 29.

Im about to purchase a new geni but for me to use it to charge my batteries do I need a 12 Volt outlet on it? Dont want to spend lots of money and find out it doesnt have one if I need it.

If the fan is more than 60-100 watts I'd be surprised... so 200 watts ought to be ample.. let me know.

Looking at this ceiling fan 25 - 52 watts seems to be the normal range.... If your fans are greater wattage than this you are using too much power... I'd be inclined to swap the one you want to run at night for a lower power one.

It's an inverter that converts 12v DC into 220v AC. You attach it to a battery... you will need to attach two crocodile clips instead of the car cigarette lighter outlet currently attached so that you can attach it to the terminals of the 12v battery and then you plug the appliance into it. It has two sockets.

Supreme is out as of next week as the schools all break-up this week. However if you come to Carpenter's Market between 10 and 12:30 on Friday (this week or next) and go to the Turtle stall you will be able to buy the inverter from the stall holder. I will tell them to expect you.

msg 5, keith...

where is Erdinc from Silent power and his "sophisticated versions"? his shop is closed for more then a year, his website...dead!! Silent Power was just another "solar company" which came...and went . like "poweryourife", 2 guys in Nicosia, 2 in Famagusta and also RoDa in Karsiyaka. where is Clive from the "property centre", alsancak? all gone (?). i would have 3-5 more examples... why kibsolar still is active in the "back -up and solar" business? because we offer reliable and well designed systems with "no lies" as we explain our customers exactly wat they get. and all this for good value for money, as we are "direct traders".(see many posts, eg http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/38592.asp )

never mind, Keith, I just "needed" to say this...

Now that the technicians have sorted you out I recommend that you do not keep the battery under your pillow. A shocking nights sleep doing that
