You may wonder what's its all about. I was sent 10 parcels through China Post Office by Economy EMS. This is a joint venture between China Post and TNT since 2000. The goods are transported by air from China to Europe and then forwarded to the country of final destination by road. Then at the country of destination they are supposed to be forwarded to their final addresses by EMS again i.e from Turkey they should have been sent to me by Express Mail Service but instead they got 550 Euros from me to forward them to Ercan. So 980 dollars from China to Turkey and 550 Euros from Turkey to Ercan. They refused to forward them by EMS. ismet

I wish you all the best in your endeavours! My experience - with Fedex - who managed to have a 2500$ package confiscated by Customs in Istanbul on it's way from the USA to TRNC was a lost cause. All of their offices outside of the States were franchises and they simply passed the buck from one to another along the way. My lawyer here was involved but, despite our best efforts, I walked away from this in the end. This franchise system is common throughout the courier industry - including TNT. I couldn't make a claim on the insurance as the package was not deemed to be lost! I simply don't trust any of them now - whatever goes wrong, it is always the customer's fault!

I hold TNT Holland responsible, the others representing them in Istanbul and TRNC can be agents, franchizes etc but the principal is always responsible. According to our law, if the principal does not have offices here then I can hold their local agent responsible too. So I am going to sue all three, Holland, Turkey and TRNC altogether. I am not holding my breath about what they are going to say, once I get the goods in my posession they will all be under fire. I have been informed that it will take 2-3 days to complete the transfer. Always make sure that your parcels are sent by EMS but be careful about joint ventures like China Post and TNT. Other global schemes are ok as long they are put in the post before they arrive in Turkey e.g I think some parcels are sent by amazon.com by air by DHL World up to Europe and then forwarded to their final destinations by EMS. ismet

Interesting development on the case yesterday. TNT of Turkey called me on the telephone to tell me that the management considered my displeasure with their service and decided to make a refund to me. I paid them 550 euros and they offered to pay me back 210 euros which I said is not enough. I have been too slow and did not start the court proceedings yet because the summer court vacation is almost upon us and thus it would make no difference if I waited anbother couple of months. Anyway I rejected their offer and told them that if I do not hear from them in the next ten days I will take it that they have no new offer and I will act accordingly. I have not heard anything from TNT Holland but I am sure they have intervened and thus the efforts of TNT Turkey to settle the matter. We will see. ismet

Eventually I sued them and we settled out of court last Thursday. They did not want any court records, hence they wrote out their cheque and I withdrew my case. ismet
