Subject - Overflow Pool dirty! Action taken - clean and brush pool, vac pool, carry out backwash and rise. Problem - On turning the overflow system back on again for normal running ,dirty water now comes out of the bottom inlets to the pool and the pool is back in the same condition as it was before vac. This has not happened before but has started to occur over the past few weeks. Question - Why? Any help welcomed, thanks.

waddo I had a similar problem earlier this year. The problem tends to be located in your sand filter. Either you have algae residing there and this will show as a green tinged spout from your bottom inlets, or the sand has part calcified and no longer traps dirt efficiently, this will show as a brownish spout. Solution 1 is shock treatment, solution 2 is sand replacement.

Thanks guys, not even backwash to waste helps the problem much as it comes back again shortly after and I was at the last resort of sand change myself - needed the moral support of others to push me over the edge in that direction I think. Looks like that is what needs to happen after all and at the least it would not hurt to change the sand anyway. Now for the big question - anyone gone across to Zeolite instead of sand? I understand its finer make up makes for a much better filter and hence cleaner water? If TRNC Vaughan is out there could you give me an idea of cost of change over - including the work - please? Thanks again to all.
