My wife is travelling to Athens on holiday and has suddenly asked if there will be a problem at Athens airport, as she has only TRNC stamps in her new password. Does anyone know if this will be a problem? Thanks. Mc

I think as long as she has an EU passport she should be ok. This point has been cleared up by EU when ROC joined the club. Of course it may not stop an ignorant customs official from causing her trouble but as long as she insists on her rights she should be ok.

If she has a EU passport then she can travel freely within the EU uninhibited

I thought it shouldn't be a problem, but having worked in South Africa during the 80's, I know what hassle it was to travel to other countries with SA stamps and visa's in your passport.

Reminds me of the time in 1987 when my father died in Kyrenia, the only way i could get onto the island at short notice was to fly to Larnaca. I approached immigration at Larnaca with my passport full of TRNC stamps with great trepidation, but the immigration office either did not see them or decided to ignore them and duly stamped me in.

When I got to Ledra Palace and asked to be allowed to cross to the Turkish 'occupied' area they only agreed to let me cross if I allowed them to obliterate all the TRNC stamps with a felt tip pen. Such pettiness but obviously I agreed in order to cross over.

Why not use the white paper slip provided at the customs crossing then you have no stamps in the passport and no problems.

Even if one uses the white paper visa slips, if on 'temporary visitor' [renewable annually], the Immigration insist on placing this stamp in the actual passport.

I don't know if this practice can be prevented?

Greece and Turkey are starting a system where visas are not necessary between their two countries.

Who would have believed that a few years ago!

Shouldn't be a problem - staff at the Greek airport will likely be on strike anyway!
