Dave You couldn't make it up !!! This latest debalcle takes the mis-management of CTA to new heights. 670 staff to run a fleet of 5 aircraft is never going to be financially viable. I would suspect that when/if Atlasjet take control there will be a massive cull of jobs and the unions will be out in force - for a change !! Watch this space Paul

Please can someone refresh my memory? I thought there was a major problem with Atlasjet and North Cyprus a few years ago. I know they used to fly from Durham Tees Valley, but no longer do. Do they fly from other British airports? What happened, and why do they want another foothold in the TRNC? I have googled, but was not able to find the information.

Looking at their website, it would appear that they only fly to/from Turkish mainland airports, Mykonos and Sharm el Sheik. Maybe if they take over CTA, flights to the UK could come onto their agenda. Personally, I always fly from the South as I find that there is a much better choice and on the whole flights are considerably cheaper http://www.atlasjet.com/AtlasjetWeb/atlasjet.kk?lang=EN Paul

Paul, Altlas Jet were the carrier that TWI used on the Ercan to Stansted route so probably have some expertise still in their management structure. As a rule the service and planes were good.

Tom, was there a problem as I seem to remember that you could fly directly from Durham Tees Valley to Ercan a few years ago, but there were financial problems with Atlasjet. I cannot remember the deatils.

CTA plane crash 0 - Atlasjet plane crash 1 I know who I'd prefer to fly with, knowing the reason for the crash! Richard

Msg 6 It was TWI (aka Jewels of the World) that had major financial problems and then went down the pan, not AtlasJet. Also,it was an AtlasJet flight that got hijacked 2 or3 years ago on its way from Ercan to Antalya which raised questions about 'security' at Ercan!

Sheila Msg 11 - The message you mentioned is not quite correct in the fact of Atlas being chartered to TWI - I think it was copied from one of mine from a previous TRNC bulletin board. The reason I mentioned Atlas was that they were the name sometimes associated with TWI & Jewels who did go out of business. Atlas did not go down at that time (I am not aware of them having any subsequent problems but I am fallible).

Richard, That would be Atlas Jet then - CTA are still due to have their's so to choose them may well be dodgy, that is supposing they can afford to buy enough fuel to get one off the ground!

The fact that CTA owe millions of dollars to various creditors (including maintenance companies) would really raise alarm bells when it comes to the quality of servicing that the aircraft may or may not be receiving. If it's all the same to you, I will stick to the Thomas Cooks, Easyjets and Monarchs of this world - at least you know what you are getting !! Paul
