Try either Dr Cenkler - 0392 8153528 or The Celiker Hospital - 0392 8154950 Both are in Girne, Dr Cenkler's practice is up a side road near the main "high Street" and Dr Celiker's hospital is in upper girne. Smithy if you are a lady, or have a wife please don't go to Dr Munur!!!

Lets put it this way, if you went with a sore throat, he would probably insist on you "hoping" up on his couch minus your bra!!!!! Luckily I have never had personal experience but have freinds that have!

Pass the Girne State Hospital going east at the junction for Bellapais turn right, then turn immediately right for the private hospital. If Female I will advise you not to go near the Munir surgery, old habits die hard and this guy likes to be hard!

Re: Dr Erkan Cheliker....... A word of caution....this doctor diagnosed me with a medical problem that I did not have...and charged me a fortune! Not to mention weeks of worry and stress. I returned to the UK and paid privately to see a top consultant in London who confirmed that I did not have what I had been told. Will never step foot in his surgery again. I also know of one other person who was operated on at his surgery who then had to be go through the trauma of corrective surgery in hospital as he had not carried out the procedure correctly and was not authorised to carry out the procedure in the first place.

I am sorry to hear the negative comments re Dr Erkan. I can only speak from my own experience and that of my husband. We have no complaints at all and in fact Dr Erkan pretty much saved my life when he performed surgery on me. As for my husband, he had a recurring vision/motor problem for over 20 years. UK doctors kept dismissing it as a response to stress. Dr Erkan took the time to do some simple tests and now we know exactly was causing it (not stress!!!) and we are able to manage it well following his advice. My husband has been episode free for many months now.

I to have visited Dr Erkan for a complaint that was diagnosed in the UK and which I have had for many years. Dr Erkan's diagnosis was rather different. Result - no more problems! I guess a number of people seeing the same Dr. will have differing views.

Smithy What sort of Doctor are you looking for? Just a general GP or a gynaecologist? If it's the latter (as you're female..) then i recomend JINOMER, she was my gyno when i was pregnant, she speaks really good English and best of all...she's a woman! JINOMER surgery is located just past the court buildings on the left hand side...heading towards Karakum. Also there is a chemist opposite her surgery which makes it handy for prescriptions. She's also a surgeon. Hope this helps Talla

Hi Talla Thanks for the info. I know Jinomer (Mirian) as we go to the same gym (Colony) but I just wanted a GP to register with, I keep getting reccomended to different GP's but they speak little or no English at all, but I have had some good replies so I will be looking into them, once again thanks. smithy

Hi cooper, That's a shame, he offered to operate on me and relieve me of £3750 sterling for his troubles. Fortunately I went to another Doctor who managed to cure me for 100ytl!!!! After months on pain killers, stopped all my pain in a week!!! So my advice is always get a second opinion, especially when quick surgery is offered. There must be others who have been in a similar situation, and gone ahead. And possibly regretted it later. How many? Navek

You do not 'register' with a doctor here. This is not the UK & there is no NHS. I have consulted Dr Hakan Ataker in Girne for 6 years. He is a GP & I have never had a problem with him. He has a surgery close to HSBC in Girne. I agree about Dr Munur. I have other friends who see Dr Cenkler. He's fine too but I received incorrect advice some years ago about a drug I was taking. I saw a British Gastro Enterologist/GP in the South & she didn't agree with his advice.

Dr Erkan CELIKER has not gone bust. I have no idea where that came from. Maybe we are getting Cenkler and Celiker mixed up? Similar names, so it's possible.

I have used Dr Hakan Ataker for a number of years and he is excellent. Celiker is a rip off artist and needs very careful watching where money is concerned. All his prices are in sterling except when you query this and they become YTL! Munur is also well into overcharging as well as being very 'hands on' with female patients!

Hi Kitty1. I think you may be right. nostradamus mentioned paying in sterling but the Dr Erkan I know has only ever charge me in YTL.

Celiker relieved us of £4500 for an operation that was a complete botch up. Wouldn't pee on him if he was on fire. Have also heard many many other horror stories about him.

Dr Munur or is it Dr Manure, full of s...! he wanted me to kiss him in front of a waiting customer just to make her jealous that was after I fought off the 'wandering hand'. Don't go there especially if you are a female.

When I went there with a fish bone in my throat, he asked me sit on the edge of the couch and open my legs, it was my (late) husbands remark "oh, he's going the long way round then" that had me in stitches!! It turned out quite harmless - just wanted to stand really close so he could see down my throat!!

Everything that is said about Dr Munur is true. However, he is good. Even with women. We wouldn't go anywhere else. When we last went, both of us, (together) he asked my wife to remove her bracelet so he could do an ECG. He noticed that the braclet was the same as the one he recently gave to his mistress. She threw it at him as she thought it was a copy. He then gave it to his wife who was very happy. Gods honest truth. He told us this story himself less than 3 months ago.

Hi negativenick, "considering how cheap surgery is here, what was he going to do for £3750 ? a brain transplant?" Was told I needed to go "private" to Istanbul for an operation on my back re slipped disc in my spine. Which he was able to arrange within a week, on a Saturday. This also included flights etc for the doctor and cost of closing his practice, who if I remember rightly would not be taking part in the operation. Wife would also need to come, to look after me while recovering. Again, I would recommend a second opinion, especially when offered a quick operation. Navek
