Is it true you can now hire a car in Larnaca and drive to Girne and use the car there while on holiday. Would love to hear if anyone has thanks

Hi Seanie, YES your can hire a car from Larnaca and drive to the North. On crossing the border you pay around £20 and you will be given a temporary insurance certificate valid for I think up to 3 months. This allows you to drive legally in TRNC.



One word of warning, DO NOT mention to the Greek Cypriot car hire company that you are taking the vehicle out of the South! They will cause a scene and not let you hire it!



You will have to give a South Cyprus address hotel etc.



You will be ok and legal to drive the vehicle to the North, EXCEPT you will not be able to call for assistance to the hire company if the vehicle breaks down while your are in the North...........Nunu1

True in most cases - however there are a couple of better companies who arent so emotional. we used Cyprus Car Hire (Fortuna) This is their web site http://www.cyprus-car.com/cyprus-car-hire.asp



We used them at new year with no problems. They knew we were going north - again no problems. In fact if you look at the web site under 'Rental Terms' it tells you that you can take the car to the North subject to insurance etc.



They meet you at Larnaca arrivals and the car is in the car park waiting.

I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT ANY CAR FROM THE SOUTH GOING INTO NORTH, THE INSURANCE YOU PAY AN UPGRADEFOR IS ONLY THIRD PARTY SO DO NOT HAVE ANY ACCIDENTS OR YOU MAY FACE A NASTY BILL
