| From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Cyprus adopted a new postcode system on October 1, 1994. The alphanumerical code precedes the name of the town or city, hence: CY-1900 NICOSIA CYPRUS The 'CY' prefix is only required for mail originating from abroad. The postcode number ranges for the administrative areas are: Nicosia District: 1000-2999 Limassol District: 3000-4999 Famagusta District: 5000-5999 Larnaca District: 6000-7999 Paphos District: 8000-8999 Kyrenia District: 9000-9999 The system covers the entire island, including the disputed area under Turkish occupation known as the 'Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus', but but only a few have been allocated. Mail to that part of the island must be sent via 'MERSIN 10, TURKEY', as it is not recognised by the Universal Postal Union |

| Very thorough answer Mint. Tapps - whenever I'm asked for a postcode I just give Mersin-10, country as Turkey and City as Northern Cyprus, and any more questions I just explain that although we are a part of Turkey the Turkish post code system is not used here. No more problems, but do make sure you insist that whoever is sending post to you marks clearly 'Northern Cyprus' not Cyprus and tell them not to forget TURKEY. I nearly had heart failure when I tried to order something from abroad and the silly girl in the office decided to mark Cyprus. DHL delivered to their Cyprus office and declared the address did not exist (!!) The only way for me to receive delivery was then to travel over to the South! |
