The dust particles are too fine to be trapped... you need to use flocculation liquid to make the particle stick together run the pump for 4 hours than switch off and let them settle to the bottom (a day or two) and then hoover them to waste... set the multi-way switch to the 'Waste' setting... this way the water goes directly out and not through the filter. Don't be tempted hoover them into the filter in the normal way. If you just hoover them into the filter they will breakdown again and end up back in your pool! Doh! There is no need to backwash at every hoover unless that's not very often and the pressure in your filter goes up substantially.

tatty, It sounds counter-intuitive, but the more that you run your filtration system without backwashing, and the more that you vacuum the pool without backwashing, the more 'clogged' the filter becomes with all the fine material that has become trapped in it You might think "That's BAD" Well, you'd be wrong - it's GOOD! Although the trapped material will cut down somewhat on the volume of water able to pass through the system (and increase the reading on the filter pressure gauge), it will act to improve the efficiency of the filtration! If you do not backwash until the needle on the pressure gauge is approaching the RED zone, you will find that much more of the dirt is trapped by the filter After backwashing, during which the sand in the filter is seriously disturbed (a bit like me ), the 'filter bed' takes a while to settle down, and arrange itself so as to perform efficient filtering, you really don't want to be vacuuming just after backwashing Follow Groucho's advice...

Also make sure when you backwash the water runs clear before going back to the normal setting

so many experts you make me laugh, what could be wrong is the six way valve is letting past if the spring is weak or the seal is damaged or dirty even a bit of calcium on the seal will cause the dirt to bypass the filter and go back into the pool i looked after over a hundred pools at one time and have had this problem many times the six way valves are easily stripped down dont be scared you wont get springs and things flying about best of luck
