Once again our airline is in turmoil, anuther restructure, $70 million in debt, it has five planes and 700 staffs what do they all do i want to know, it seems to me that they need to trim there operations, they says that they use so much fuel landing and taking off at Turkey BUT THIS IS NOT THE ROOT OF IT ALL they can organise it so that they dont have to land in Turkey, just overfly its airspace as they do often on the Stanstead run. Also Guner Ercoban of the union says that they are not overstaffed as they needs 70 peoples for each of its five planes alone, this is only 350 staff or am i missing things here ?? I can think that some more will be needed but surely not double amount !!!! Last they are going to buy/lease another plane!!!! any body got ideas

Some hard decisions will require to be made with regard to it's profitability and if a restructure is to be properly implemented it may need to look for outside influence as they must surely be running on empty as far as home bred senior avionic management talent is concerned.

simple terms it doesnt stack as a business ,cost to high v profit to low . dead easy restructure but its obvious to anybody the airline does not need 700 staff for 5 planes ,so may be its a way of using money up and finding jobs for people . if serious im sure they could sort it out .best option would be to merge with another and double the routes ,then half the costs . what they cany keep doing it costing themselves out of a allready competitive market and flying half full or double charging . tough decsions are to be made by government with where tax payers money goes . kav

Unlike many airlines CTA also run the day to day operatons of Ercan. That includes checkin staff, cleaners and car park attendants. This is what is costing us money. All these services should goto one or more outside companies to run and the airport itself should be run by a private company too. This may help with CTA planes not hogging the front of the departure lounge stands and get a second terminal and runway build. Some rationalisation has taken place with now only one company doing baggage handling instead of two. What Ercan needs is to be privately run so that CTA can't say to the other 2 airlines, "you will charge X amount of Lira for a this flight otherwise we will make sure that you don't get to land at Ercan." Then when 1 company cuts its prices then they the other 2 will follow suite or fly with near empty planes that either only break even or lose money. It is also interesting to note that a ticket from Birmingham International to Dalaman costs £317 return. A ticket from Birmingham International to Ercan costs £317 return. Which travellers being screwed?

I think this is a case of individuals thinking they know how to do a job and everyone should b... off with there advice. In fact the people involved have no experience of running an airline and should get help asap. I am sure Turkish Air or somebody would give consulatncy for free. However there is too much pride involved and it will never happen. TC, despite others I think the same as you. The airline and all ground services must be seperated so they can become accountable entities. If not seperated totally then the two groups must account seperatley in order for the wastage to be clearly identified. What other airline has car park attendants lumped in with pilots!!!!!!! KTHY, we want to fly with you and it is great to have a "flag carrier" but is it really cost effective. If the boss bit the bullet and asked for help from within the whole community, do not even have to go abroad, I know there is enough expertise to help. Some of us would even offer to work for free in exchange for free flights.

We flew with KTHY from Heathrow to Ercan in May. We were lucky enough to be 'bumped' up to the more spacious front rows as we were told the flight was full. Great! From Heathrow to Turkey the other 30 or so spacious 'front' seats were empty! In the Turkey stopover these seats were all occupied by KTHY air crew/staff for the leg to Ercan, (obviously denying fare paying passengers a flight), many carrying enormous amounts of 'cabin' baggage including shopping, duvets, bedspreads etc, many of which were left on the floor. Obviously paying passengers come last! Before landing at Ercan, I pointed out to a member of aircrew that the 'free' packets of nuts were 8 weeks past their sell by date. The response I got for complaining was to expect to be handcuffed and arrested on landing!! Don't you just love customer service!

ROBnJO, The date on the packet of nuts is the production date, not the use by date. The use by date is 12 months from date of production.

Interesting as KTHY has no business class section, the planes are all economy class seats. Me thinks somebody knows not what they are talking about!!!!!!!! Perhaps even someone with a vested interest in making North Cyprus look bad.

Au Contraire folks! The front 5 rows of seats on KTHY flights have double the legroom of the rest of the plane. That is why they are only filled up when fully booked, or left for staff transfers/VIP's. Next time you board, have a look! p.s. The nut packets definitely had 'Use by' date as my wife and fellow passenger noted. p.p.s. I love NC, that's why I have bought there having considered GC, Greek Islands, Spain, Canaries etc etc. for years. It was not an impulse buy. Why on earth would I invest a pretty sizeable amount into the country then knock it? I actively promote NC to many others and feel very happy with the people there and love the lifestyle. Sadly, KTHY are a pretty dreadful carrier, almost as bad as the NC Tourist Board in London. I have emailed them at least 6 times over the last 6 months with sensible enquiries and always got the standard ' we thank you,... and will be in contact shortly'....... I have never had a single reply from them. I have, and only will, post my real experiences on this BB, unless it is a closed shop to newbies. Rob

Also! After a wonderful holiday in NC last year, we accidently gave the wrong flight times to our car hire co. which resulted in us arriving at Ercan 3 hrs before our flight, not 2. This did mean we were almost the first at check in. Chatting to some seasoned NC travellers, they advised us to wait until after the Izmir stopover and if the front rows were not full, to ask flight crew if we could move up there. We did just that and enjoyed the extra leg room back to Heathrow. I'm obviously not recommending you all do the same, ... well not on my flights.

We have flown once before with Turkish Kibris - we found that we could book our own seats (exit/extra leg room) online and couldn't fault the flight or service - have to speak as I find.

The front 5 rows are for those who are part of the KTHY Frequent Flyer Club (a service that you pay a yearly subscription for as well as having to fly regularly) or VIP's. From later this year, once the new (23 year old) plane has arrived, then Business Class will be introduced on the Heathrow flights, and priced accordingly. Also from later this month, in-flight Duty Free will be available on the Heathrow flights.
