Just received call from C.T.A. informing me that my flight from Stansted to Ercan has been cancelled due to strike at Ercan tomorrow, would suggest that anyone flying tomorrow checks with their airline before leaving home for departure airport. Rob.

Hi Rob,

I am waiting for confirmation from another source I will publish as soon as I know. If it is an Ercan strike then no airline will land or take off from North Cyprus and even more hard work for all concerned at the airlines.

If this is correct I take it that we will still be allowed to Istanbul where we can get another flight as and when we can. Am I correct Tom?

William Msg 6 - this is not the airline (if the strike info is true - yet to be confirmed) but I have just had a call from a CTA client J J who has been emailed from London KTHY to say that he is not travelling in the morning.

He has not got travel insurance so can't claim on the outbound but I hope he will get some so if he has a problem later when he is actualy away (hopefully not) it can be leviated a little. Remember that you cant claim for a problem you know of only one that was not to be expected. You can still buy travel insurance 24/24 from http://www.flightholiday.co.uk .

Linda Msg 8 I am still waiting for confirmation of the strike.

I can't verify an answer as yet - if I can do you want to overnight in Istanbul and can we help you with accommodation and transfers? If so email me info@flightholiday.co.uk with details and a phone nmber or three for you.

Thanks Tom. I will wait until morning when I will check again. I may take you up on the offer of arranging a hotel in Istanbul though but there are 7 of us travelling, 5 adults and 2 children. Will let you know in the morning.

Ron Msg 10 We are one of their agents what is it you want to know? We might be able to try to answer.

If you booked by an agent call them. If you booked on line call their "call centre" + 90 212 444 0 737.

Tom, in your expert opinion what do you think the chances are of us being on the CTA flight ECN-LHR on Saturday morning? I can just book an alternative now which would guarantee I would get to London on Saturday, but I guess IF Atlas/CTA provide a flight ( even if delayed) on Saturday then we would lose the right to claim compensation. Have there actually been any flights from Ercan to the UK today? thx

I would think Ron that if Ercan does stage a strike that we would be able to fly to Istanbul and stay overnight there, as per message 8 and 11. Fingers crossed eh?

I have looked on the Ercan airport website and they are showing the 8.15am flight to Istanbul as scheduled so it doesn't look too bad at the moment. I'm sure Tom will post as soon as any information is available.

According to this, it seems that it's just the Stansted flights that are cancelled tomorrow. It all sounds a bit odd.... if they're blaming the Ercan strike, then I would have thought that all airlines would be affected in one way or another not just the UK ones... (i did hear another rumour today but i'll keep that to myself until it has been confirmed)

Is this just a CTA/KTHY issue, or is it an 'any flights to Ercan' issue?

According to the article, it's just CTA (msg 22). The BAA website for Stansted is also confirming that tomorrow's flight has been cancelled.

As i understand it CTA are not flying full stop but replacement Atlasjet are (leaving aside Ercan strike) both Ankara travel and Atlasjet (turkey) told me to turn up for 11.00 flight from Stansted.

I have this horrible feeling that CTA may have lost their Stansted landing slots under the EU use it or lose it rule... I hope i'm very wrong! I still can't understand why it's just the UK flights affected and none of the others.

Don't worry Ron. What will be will be. When ours were cancelled during the ash cloud Pegasus transferred us onto an extra flight the following day but that was cancelled too. I then had to rebook. Hopefully won't get that far this time. Will look again in the morning.

Melanie Msg 14 - I have and can not have or give expert opinion but unless the alleged strike goes onto Saturday you might expect to fly. If you miss your flight due to your inaction or actions you will probably have no recourse or refund.

Lilli Msg 25 - For once I am glad that not many people have booked through flightholiday as I have no clients in trouble this weekend. (It would be very nice to have the trade and income in these hard times but I am rather pleased I've not let anyone down.)

Dave Msg 26 - You will be told to turn up for flights to protect the airline - I do not know if it is a strike or if it affects, Ercan airport or CTA or Atlas or Pegasus or Turkish Airlines or all or none of the above - this time like most other Tour Operators and Travel Agents I am very in the dark.

My daughter just checked in and got through passport control for the turkish airlines to Istanbul with no problems, if there is to be a strike it hasn't started yet, at least I don't think it has or they surely wouldn't let her through to the gate.

I am not sure of the Ercan position.

At this moment it would seem from some information on Pegasus that there have been flights in Ercan at:

08.10

07.40

The next scheduled arrival is running about 20 mins late

Turkish seem to say that the following have also happened

04.59

09.52

Anything else at this moment is pure rumour or guessing.

I once flew from Pisa to Gatwick on Alitalia and I was the only passenger on an otherwise empty plane....

Cabin service was brilliant!
