This is the title of my essay about our problems etc. This is very much a summary missing out things that may come up in future legal action etc. Not included the many fights with solicitor, physical confrontation with the builder plus all the tears, arguments and near break up of our marriage. This is life in North Cyprus, unfortunatley not what we came here for. Read if you wish, I do not care it was cathartic just to write down the facts and names. Hopefully others will be saved by reading our story. David & Christine http://www.hbpg-trnc.net/Letters/Waters_cloud_june10.html http://www.hbpg-trnc.net/Letters/Waters_cloud_june10.html

I realise that the link [story] is merely a precis of the ongoing nightmare you, as a couple, are going through. Wife in floods of tears - day after day - night after night - but no alternative but to stay and 'nut it out' because of 'burning one's bridges' in UK - too familiar a story here. You've got a ton of guts, David - having met you, I'm sure you'll 'muscle through'.

David & Christine, Almost everyone, if they are honest with themselves, who reads your story will think " there but for the grace of God" . I wish you good luck in your pursuit for justice & the dream home you paid for & deserve. Morty

Dear David You probably don't remember me, having met some years ago, I think you ran me back to the Sempati after some beer throwing contest at Mambos. I still remember your kindness and having been through some life changing experiences myself in the last year, fully sympathise with all you have gone through. I'm over for a month from mid July, just down the road in Alsancak. You never know what's around the corner, if its now bad, it could get better. Would like to meet for a beer with you and Nige, if possible. Lem

An uderstanding of your plight, frustration and continued battle. Like yourself so many individuals are suffering to a certain degree a total non gratis situation. Justice will prevail, but at what cost. Dreams are being shattered, people exploited. Is this such good press for an area of the Island that we all love and adore. Our thoughts and concerns are with you.

lemtich, How could I forget my favourite pikey!!!!!! lol When you come over shout and I will get Nige to come and do the beer throwing duties!!!!! I thank all for the kind words, however the purpose of writing is to let as many people know as possible what can happen here. There is no "natural justice" you have to fight every inch of the way. I have named the builder because we are fed up of hiding behind a screen, it is time all these rogues were dealt with and by us setting the ball rolling maybe others will follow. Yes there is a small risk but the overall benefits to the whole community outweigh those risks. There is a majority of satisfied buyers here but there are a lot of very unhappy people as well. I feel we have put our heads in a potential noose but if everyone else who has problems is drawn out then we have a force to be reckoned with to persuade the powers that be to do something. David

Re msg 11, havali, what a lovely post. The Turkish Cypriot people were one of the reasons a lot of us moved here. It is the FEW who have spoilt it for many. It would be very wrong to blame all Turkish Cyriots and I am sure none of us feel that way. Let's hope we can all look forward to better things. A reminder this is not just happening to ex pats but to your fellow country men too.

Right now I feel like letting this thread die. the unions have scuppered any chance of a deal on the national airline and we were supposed to be flying back on Tuesday with CTA for my parents 60th wedding anniversary. That looks like it is now scuppered. Right now I hate TRNC and just want to leave but cannot because we would not be able to sell our home. What a F****ing awful country this is turning into. A load of money grabbing, thieving illigitmate................. It is a shame for the majority of the population that a minority have now destoyed any credibility the TRNC had on the world stage. I am finished, I do not give a fig any more about this poxy country.

David I did warn you about the TRNC before you came to live there but unfortunately you accused me of whinging, it seems that I was right and the place is not the paradise so many wish it to be. Yes there are some very nice locals but it is not them that are causing you grief and they cannot solve your problems. Clearly from what you are now saying, I personally would suggest that you cut your losses and go somewhere else. I lived in the TRNC for 11 years and decided to return to the UK. I have a property in the TRNC and wish to sell it. I now rent in the UK and both my wife and I are far happier living in the UK than we were in the TRNC. The UK is not as bad as a lot of the expats portray the country, its not perfect but I don't think you would get the types of hassle you are suffering there now. Clearly your health is suffering. I wish you both well.

Q, We did not expect paradise, just a peaceful retirment like many others here wished for. You are right about one thing, the health is suffering badly, not that helps with the authorities here.............................. edited by me before posting!! I am pleased you are happy back in UK and sincerly hope that you can sell you property soon so you can make closure. Best wishes David & Christine

So sorry to hear such a sad story but its typical of whats going on in the TRNC. I might also add - its not only the Turkish Cypriot builders causing all these issues its also a number of UK developers. Some not all ,are just as guilty and frankly they could'nt give a dam. What goes around comes around and I'm sure it will. Good luck and keep fighting!!

I left the TRNC for much the same reasons, although I never suffered in the way that David, Christine and many others are suffering. I feel for all the peolpe who have been let down by an indifferent and corrupt society, and wish them well.

BTT in case people have not read yet for whatever reason. We just want to ensure people thinking of buying do not get caught in the same or any of the many similar problems. Also to let others know that you are not alone and there are contacts available if you need to talk.

cyprusishome Admire you for staying and not letting them force you to leave.I think in many case thats what they want ,people to reach the end of their tether and just pack up, leaving the culprits to enjoy the fruits. If your story makes just one Brit stop and think about buying, then it it will have done some good. All the best for the future.

littleyou! Thanks for the comments. You two are the strong ones that give inspiration to all of us to carry on. Me, I am at the end of the line, I do not think I can keep up the front much longer, this debacle with KTHY has put the "tin hat on it". I am really sorry we will not be in court on Wednesday it would have done me immense good to see the prosecutor trying to justify his existence. For anyone who does not know what I am talking about - Geoff Day is back in court on wednesday at 10ish, please read the threads regarding the case and go along and give your support. (a) you will be supporting two lonely people in terms of the court appearance and (b) you will learn some more about how TRNC justice works!!!!!! It is a fascinating experience sitting in the court room even though it is all in Turkish, last week there were people peering into the court at all the British sat at the back of the room. I think they were getting the message, we mean business!

Rowlo think its more like the ones in trouble want any one thats able to go to the court or these auctions to show strength in numbers. Thats sticking together, but unfortunatly cyprusishome and wyn have been battling to try and get folks to rally around but only a few do...... Rowlo if you have a few moments spare can you get to the court room please, any info to report back is important to us all.....

rowlo, you are 100% correct. If only the ostriches had come out to play 4 years ago instead of - I see no ships!!!!!! That is not disrespecting any of the above posters, many I have known for a long time but most will have not known why I take the stance I have over the years. Now they and everyone knows, including the builder who no doubt will now be looking for ways to get back at us.
