Hi Experts, Going back some time I read on the forum, that the black hammerite paint does not last long, due to the heat. If that is the case, can anyone suggest an alternative

We use the Ronseal satin finish version of the same stuff... we do not dilute it. It seems fine. We were told by the man in the Yapı Market in the street opposite Deniz Plaza that the local habit of adding thinners to the Hammerite and Ronseal is the cause of it not lasting. It changes the fundamental chemical compound I guess... Even so, I think you need to allow for a re-paint every 4 or 5 years depending on how fussy you are about a bit of rust showing. We use one of the very small paint rollers for applying the bulk of the paint at speed to avoid the need to thin the paint. Using a 1" brush to cut-in at the joints where the roller won't reach... No expert...

4-5 years is good for hammerite i have used it here and it is fine. its been three years so far and its fine. Obviously if you havent painted every area properly rust will eventually come out. I have thinned hammerite to spray it on using a compressor and no problems. I actually think it says on the tin that you can thin it down anyway but that wont make a difference.
