The restaurant is located next door to Atakara Supermarket in Alsancak on the main road. The menu is Turkish/Cypriot, loads of parking at the back and lovely restored cypriot house for indoor and outdoor dinning.

We took 6 friends with us last night to try it out. I chose lamb chops and asked for vegetables but no rice. It arrived with rice and no veg! The others chose various steaks and also lamb chops and the meat was lovely but we were disappointed with the frozen chips. When asked if we enjoyed the meal we said yes but mentioned our disappointment with frozen chips. His comment was that the Germans prefer frozen chips then said 'Germany 4 - England 1' rather rudely. Will we return - Mmmmmmm - maybe we will leave it to the Germans who he obviously prefers to cater for.

Have to disagree with message 8, we were there last night and had a lovely meal, the only downside was the frozen vegetables but everything else was spot on.

Why any Resaturant here uses frozen veg, or frozen chips is beyond me. Why any one would eat them is also beyond me, The Blue Door look's a beautiful Place, I am amazed that a place that looks so good would use frozen stuff. I went to a local Bar in Alsancak last year, to book Sunday Lunch, and pointed out that we wanted fresh veg. The proprieter (ex pat) said, dont use any fresh veg it's no good the veg here. What a Berk, we must have some of the finest fruit and veg in the world, and so cheap.

It is a beautiful place, very authentic, even down to the costumes worn by the waiters. We found the atmosphere very pleasant and the staff attentive without being in your face.I must say that I was surprised that frozen vegetables/chips were served, really not what I expected but maybe if enough people comment on it they may change their policy, it's such a shame that somewhere obviously designed to appear authentic let's itself down with something so trivial because everything else was lovely, and well priced too. I don't think there are enough German people living here to keep a restaurant of that size going so perhaps the owner should take that into consideration if that is what he is basing the menus on.

JohhnyLee, Was he a bit of a Grumpy Grouse? It never ceases to maze me how this pathetic excuse for sheer laziness is trotted out when frozen veg are used. I have a pathological distrust of anyone who claims that fresh vegetables are no good and that their customers prefers frozen... I've yet to meet anyone who prefers to pay for frozen food to be heated... Apropos the Germany 4 - England 1, that's hopefully meant to be a joke... did you mention the War?

I find it very difficult to comprehend that anyone would not know the difference in taste between fresh and frozen veg. Have to admit, we do have frozen peas.

Dusty48 are you incapable of having a conversation or debate on this forum without resorting to calling people names? i.e. 'stupid', 'fool'? You really come across as a very aggressive person. I can only assume you have a really big chip on your shoulder - hope it's not a frozen one! Maggie

Hi I'm the owner of the Blue Door Restaurant. I am sorry that you weren't pleased with what you get that night. My apologize for the missing things or ever went wrong. When something goes wrong it's always best to tell the truth so that things can be managed better. Before you mentioned the frozen chips we already decided to try the fresh one. We appreciate people making suggestions to make something better. But we prefer it to be mentioned into our face like everyone would do. To end the discussion about "frozen vegetable"! I invite everybody to come and see our kitchen stuff preparing the the food. The boiled vegetable you got were freshly boiled and lightly fried in the pan. Please come and have a look so that you can assure. Vegetable cut like this and especially green squash you can't find frozen. Why on earth should we use frozen veg.? We are in the catering business for more than 20 years now and never used frozen veg. I do apologize for what went wrong that night

| Hi Groucho, to end the needless discussion about our vegetable!!! It is NOT frozen!!! We use fresh vegetable bought at YA BELES Market! Go and ask them.....or better, come and see our kitchen and the chefs how they prepare the food. The chips were frozen which are used by most of the restaurants. But we replace them by fresh cut potatoes for some of our customers suggested and we are always striving to please our customers. This is the reason why we are running restaurants since more than 20 years. I am not sure if one of our waiters really claimed that we use frozen ones. I will find out and if it's true that he said that he surely will be admonish for that. If something goes wrong in the beginning the shouldn't happen, but it does sometimes and we apologize for that. So why should we affront people or do anything which would defect our business on purpose? So.....dear Goucho, if you want to come and have a look into our kitchen, you are kindly invited to do so. | I have eaten at Blue Door and loved the food, the service and general atmosphere, since i have been going for the past 3-4 weeks, all food has been fresh and delicious, i would recommend that all the above critics should revisit and revise their opinion of the constantly improving Blue Door Restaurant, you are truly missing out. Thank you for a few wonderful evenings! |

The only problem I have with ANY restaurant I have visited while in NC is with the salads, there is never any dressing and unless you ask for it you will very rarely get a lemon or an olive! P.s I haven't eaten at the Blue Door

My experience is opposite to yours britvic in that practically every salad I have ever had here has been dressed with (usually) lemon juice and olive oil which is what I do at home and Cypriots do love their lemons. Last night I had lovely salad at Sardunye Beach Bar nicely dressed as described. I have had good salads at The Cabin, Paparas and Paprika which have all had dressing. Oh and my regular haunt, Kervan Pizza Garden.
