Our car is registered in NC, do we need to take out insurance here before travelling to Turkey or can we do it when we arrive at Tasecu - same as you can at Metehan crossing? Has anyone done this and what was the experiece like?

You can buy insurance when you land we did this last year when riding our motorbike back to UK, min 3 months.

Did you have a problem with the time of landing or is the insurance office open all hours?

Not sure about opening times, we landed about 18.00 hours.

You could try buying insurance for Turkey over here from a insurance broker.
