Paperwork for renewing Residency

Has anybody renewed recently and can advise what paperwork we need to take to Girne Police Station.

Muhtars letter, house contract etc. Every year it is different.

We went to the police station a few days and the queue was a right down the corridor so we gave up and came away.

Went few weeks ago and needed original muhtar letter, copy of kocan (or contract if no kocan), copy of TRNC bank statement (recent), copy of last residency stamp in passport, copy of your photo in passport. They also asked if had recently been to greek side but had not, if you have is easier if you have last white bit of paper from border but not critical. Pretty sure thats everything, was not asked for marriage certificate but had some friends who went a while ago and they were asked!!!! Get there about 7.15 a.m. as only a certain amount of tickets being given out daily. Good luck.

Make sure you have your contract with a Land Registry stamp on it as we were sent away to get that from our solicitors.

We did also need a copy of our marriage certificate.

Pass photo

Last residency visa

Bank account

Contract showing stamp duty paid

Mukhtars letter

Pink or blue kimlik

All copies accept original mukhtars letter

Last in and out

Not asked for marriage certificate.

Went to Lefkosia to-day to collect our residency, took half an hour, quarter of an hour for office to open. They start at 8.30, 4 people in front of us, small office just for UK citizens. Go in main door turn left, down tiny corriador, bear right, first door on right marked Student Office. They issue paperwork, go and pay in usual place,go back and one minute to put 7tl stamp in passport, fantastic.

How much in advance can you renew your residency , it used to be a week in advance of previous date?



If you are travelling through the border or out of Ercan and your residency permit is away being renewed, you

have to go to the police station a few days before travelling to get a letter stating where your permit is to allow you through the border ok.

We went to get Muhtar letters in Karsiyaka today and were told we have to go to the Kaymakamlik in Kyrenia. Has anybody done this and, if so, where do we have to go and what is the cost please.

Don't quote me, but I think it's a month before last residency expires. The only way to be certain is to go the the Police Station & ask or go with paperwork, 1 month before & try to apply.

Re. crossing to South. You can also ask for a 90 day stamp at Metehan before your residency expires or during the week after expiry. I do know this bit is true because I have done it before. However I did know a guy on the immigration control at Metehan who told me this.

Once one week is up, after last Residency expiry, you are correct about having to get a letter from the Police Station. Also this letter has to be for exactly the date that want to go South, not just any old day.

Mind you all this may be out of date again. Who knows?

Thanks for the info, I will go to the police station and find out - taking all my papers with me just in case.

l had this problem last year when renewing/ travelling in the same month, and had to give the police the exact date of travel to put in the letter. They will only do the letter a few days beforehand though.
