"How strange, to bite the hand that feeds you!" That would be the hand that feeds you from the pockets that you have filled with money over the years? No such thing as a free lunch - anywhere in the world! So if the lunch you have had to pay for is below the standard you expect for the payment you have made - Bite it!!!

Jock Nice one, but you are forgetting that whilst England are coming back under a cloud, they did at least qualify. The sub-standard and almost non-competitive nature of the game north of the border means that Scotland will continue to struggle for years to come and Archie Gemmill's goal against Holland will remain the only high point. Regards Paul

JohnW, good article although maybe a little biased and 4 years out of date. After reading it I am thinking the English/British government should enforce the removal of Scorland from Britain. Wait a minute, if Scotland costs so much, why haven't they removed them or even granted them the independance they strive for. Several points in the article are true, the infrastructure isn't there, but it could be. The government would demand compensation for the revenue invested in the oil industry, what they haven't allready sold off would indeed be entitled to compensation but then that would mean Scotland is entitled to compensation for all the oil produced and sold through England. There are 2 sides to every story, if this authors is so accurate and we do depend on you then why keep us. I am sure you would be better rid of us, there must be a tiny detail missing here me thinks.

Maybe you should read "Scotching the Myth" by George Rosie, if you honestly want to understand the economics argument.

From the last election results, and just talking to people, I am not sure that most of Scotland strives for independence! Not sure what that has to do with football, but good to know that England supporters will be arriving in Glasgow en masse to welcome their team - that is loyalty! As I am partly English I do sympathise, but have relatives in Germany too, but it was a good game. Good to see Ghana beat U.S.A as it would mean so much to Africa.

And to think, I actually did my best to support them yesterday. Last time I'll do that then. I think it might have been the express that actually had the headline "the english always have to find someone to blame". In this case it seems that Scotland caused the whole economic problem with the UK. At least we achieved something, I suppose.

They will never dump the Scots. They always need someone with a worse team the them selves that they can ridicule when the wobbly wheels fall of their world cup band wagon. If truth be told, they were fools to even think they could compete at that level. To qualify to the knockout stages after only scoring 2 goals tells its own story as to how weak their group was.

Aye Jock, You cracked a good joke and the poor beaten arrogant sassenachs could not take it!! After all THEY were going to win the world cup and Rooney was going to be Player of the Tournament! Proves one thing , that only a Scots manager can get Rooney to be brilliant!! Not Italian, Swede, English or uncle Tom Cobbley!!

Jock - Msg 11 I know it was a joke, that's why there was a smiley at the end of my response. Hot Hippo - 1978 - we did'nae qualify for what I still believe to have been the best world cup tournament ever -maybe with the exception of 1966 A bit of friendly banter never hurt anyone, lets keep it that way folks. Best Wishes Paul

Chin up folks! We've still got Andy Murray at Wimbledon. If he wins,.. he's British. If he loses,. he's Scottish. No need for partisan rivalry! Rob

I have a feeling that Andy , should he win will only be british until the first TV interview, I swear I have never heard a more depressing scotsman, without 12 whiskies in him of course. Sad to say that the England cricket team and Andrew Murray are our Sporting heroes at the moment.

Great to see Andy Murray showing support for our servicemen proudly in fron of the Union flag, which we all fought under! The boy is growing up, and not bothered if he doesn't smile much - he takes his game seriously.

Jock1 and Wackyjim, Whatever happenned to Scotland? Didnt see much of your flag. Your fans back to the Highlands chasing Haggis? England had incredibly bad luck..........we blame the Italian Muppet! Renew his contract at £1 a year plus £10,000,000 if we win next time. What we need is an ENGLISH Manager!! and loyal fans. wynyardman

I was only thinking back as far as WW2 and WW1 (not that I remember the former!) and remembering what an Englishman who was on the beach at Dunkirk said. Lilli : I don't understand why they fly only the English flag, usually, over a UNITED kingdom parliament. No wonder the Celtic fringes get p...d off. Well, at least Andy cruised through to quarter-finals, without dropping a set.

FEBS......What has England done for Scotland ?? = Not A Lot. What has Scotland done for the world ??? Think about it next time you jump in your car, and have a comfortable journey because of your Pneumatic Tyres...Invented by a Jock. Next time you pick up the phone, invented by a Jock ! Switch on the lights, invented by a Jock, Use your Microwave oven, invented by a Jock, go on a cruise and navigate by Radar, invented by a jock.....the list is endless......The Scottish have done far more for this planet than any other. True we are rubbish at sports, only because the vast amounts of money given to sports councils via UK Lottery etc etc etc is SPENT in ENGLAND for youth development etc, how much is spent in Scotland ...NOT A LOT. I work with a lot of English guys here in Asia, most of them are ignorant and arrogant....and think they own the planet, AND Geordies....don't get me off on them, they can't decide what they are English or Scottish. get it Up yer Kilt !!!
