| At yesterdays speeches with President Talat and Turkish PM Erdogan the pipeline was mentioned. The target for completion of pipeline is 3 years from 2009. The following is extract from BRT on line. The scheme aims to pump 73 million cubic meters of water to be taken from a dam which will be constructed on Anamur’s dragon river. The project is designed to meet the drinking and irrigation needs of North Cyprus until 2035. Commenting on the development, President Talat said that Turkey, as in all other issues, was ready to help North Cyprus in solving its water problems. He said water will be carried to the island using tankers first until construction of the pipeline is completed. For his part, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the project’s planning will be completed by this time next year. Asked to comment on whether or not there were any plans to share the water to be piped with the South, President Talat said that such a proposal had been made but that they had not received an official reply yet. |
