We were told by the Belediye staff that Esentepe has a new Muhtar, Gunay the Shepherd... who naturally does not have a Muhtar's office and is out and about with his flock of sheep... question is, how do we contact him for Muhtar's letters etc.? When anyone finds out please post details here...

It is rumoured that there will be an new Muhturial Office established in one of the shops adjacent to the Co-op bank in the village and manned for 3 hours per day. Makes sense, but maybe not worth holding you breath!

We were introduced to Gunay last week. He speaks perfect English and he will be office based in the Village. He's a very nice guy. Art

So whilst he is in the office, who is looking after his goats and sheep or is he letting them roam all over our site eating anything we plant?

The new muhtar Gunay has a temporary office directly opposite the Beledeyesi office in Esentepe, he will be there every weekday morning 8 - 12 at least, and will have 2 to 4 witnesses nearby available to sign your papers. Gunay speaks good english, and is keen to be of helpful service to all the British residents in and around Esentepe. We are arranging a presentation and party for the outgoing Muhtar Ozkay on Saturday 24th July, at 7pm Tumba Restaurant , Esentepe. Everyone is welcome , 5tl per person to include a buffet, music and a presentation to be signed by all. You can put your name down on the list at various points, Tumba , Kings Bar, Supreme etc or phone Pete on 0533 887 5034. Please support this event, we all wish to thank Ozkay and welcome the new Muhtar - its good to have an event that brings cypriot and british residents together and it should be a fun night for all.

There is soon to be a permanent Muhtar office with a sign above the door, open from 8-12, a couple of doors down from the temporary one already opened. This is a good step forward for an important facility for us all, so please don't give a false impression of him being a shepherd before you have even met him , and give the guy a chance. He is keen to be help , and is willing to assist with any genuine problems you have. If you want things to improve for us all here, try doing something constructive to help instead of whinging on cyprus.44. The british are good at organisation, lets put our talents to good use and help the country instead of 24 hour moaning.

I understand Gunay the new Muhtar is a farmer not a shepherd, and has volunteered his time and services as this position is not paid a salary, having been voted in to serve a four year term.

Alsan, I asked at the Belediye Office and they confirmed only his name but were unable to supply any contact details. That's why I started the thread so that this information could be made available as the facts come out. The Belediye Office staff told me he was a Çoban. We will no doubt find out more on 24th.
