What does everyone use over here, as in the TRNC, for getting rid of soap scum from their shower screens.

I am getting fed up with how long it takes me to rub it off, so there must be an easier way (I hope!)

I use a plastic window cleaning blade, like a window wiper (Kleeneze do one) on the tiles and screen when I finish a shower. It stops the muck building in the first place.

don't mean to be cheeky, but I was told by the man who installed our bathroom that if you dry the tiles & shower screen after every shower the scum doesn't build up and the grout stays white. True, 'cos our bathroom was installed 16 years ago and we've never had to have the grout re-done and never get scum on the shower screen.

Thanks for the replies, I always use a wiper blade and wipe down the residue water from the screen after each shower but I will try the ideas suggested.

I was trying to use some of the bought products as they have such a strong smell and it gets a little overpowering in a smallish room.

No 1, I wouldn't let Phil Mitchell into my house never mind my bathroom!!

Re: msg 14 -

Make sure that you don't let it get anywhere near Marble or Travertine, as it's dilute Hydrochloric acid, - it will EAT Marble etc (OK on ceramic tiles, though)

Also, make sure to PROMPTLY rinse it off any metal !

The best squeegees are the ones they use in the petrol stations to clean the wind shields for you -and they sell them at the petrol stations too (got mine from K Pet). Also very handy for cleaning tall windows and patio doors !!!

Thanks Maggie, though I have to admit to agreeing with one of the posters that it does seem a waste of vodka!

Incedently does anyone know if you can still buy household ammonia? that used to be great for cleaning anything greasy!

I bought a bottle of ammonia from the chemist in Lapta village - I haven't seen it in any of the other shops though...

The only product to use is 'TUZRUHU' This is raw Hydrochloric acid (banned in the UK) It can be obtained from any supermarket and usually sold in plastic bottles but don't buy the ones sold in glass wine bottles - for obvious reasons.

It will remove any limescale very quickly but use with caution. Wear rubber gloves and ideally a mask. Dilute when cleaning chrome taps as it can discolour the chrome. It's good for cleaning tiles and floors.

We wouldn't be without it over here.

I use Dropy spray. It is caustic but not nearly as bad as Tuz Ruhu.

I would advise never to use on taps at all if you want the chrome to stay. Only use a mild washing up liquid solution for taps.

Just to let you know, I decided to try the lemon juice today on my shower screens, for no other reason than I have a big bag of them from one of my local neighbours. My screens have come up a treat so thank you.

I will keep the other suggestions to use at a later date when there is a lack of lemons!

Thank you all who responded.
