Can any one recommend a package with Turkcell. I have at present a prepay phone and want to keep the same number. I was thinking of converting to a contract with international roaming for the odd trip to the UK. has anyone experience of this or recommendations.....

I have a contract with Turkcell converted mine a few years ago. Works out at around 20TL per month, you must run your PAYG account to less than 10tl to convert. Go to the Turkcell office by the main lefkosia roundabout in Girne. Its around 30% cheaper with a contract phone and international roaming is easy to setup.

I agree,go with your residency stamps in your passport,I had a lot of credit left, but trying out my improving Turkish, they smiled, gave me a coffee and transferred it to my contract account. You then get a new SIM with your old number burned in,wait a couple of hours, change over and off you go !!! Better news was I had a text telling me I had 100 free minutes in June,July and August ( to 0533 numbers) and 2 free days per month in July and August. Also, you can go online and check your bill at any time during the month. I set mine up to be paid direct from my bank (Creditwest),last one was 14.56tl.

| JUst to confirm what keithr has mentioned, you can only do this if you have residency. I looked into it and as I don't heve residency I couldn't however Turkcell were very helpful and pointed out that I could have it registered to anyone who did have residency if I really did want to do it ie my wife or a very trusting friend. I would point out though that if you want international roaming just go to the turkcell office and they will set it up for you. I have it on PAYG and it works fine in every country I have been. | A friend was told that he had to take his Sales Contract in! - despite having Residency Stamps in his Passport - It probably depends on who you get, like most things here, and if they're not sure, they just make it up as they go along... Personally, I only use about 100 credits (Kontors) in 3 months - I get everyone to ring me - so it's hardly worth me bothering for 2TL per month! I do understand though, that they have different 'calling plans', which suit differing useages - and until you establish some sort of useage record with them, they may suggest that you just go on the 'Standard' plan, and then assess it after 3 months or so. |

KKTCELL stands for Kusey Kubrıs Turk Cell (North Cyprus Turk Cell) - so they're the same!
