Hi All. I cannot believe that so few "caring" members of this board cannot dip into their deep pockets, to help this most worthwhile animal sanctuary. £5 is all it would take to help allieviate so much sufferring. Please! wyn

Chris, All the best with the homestead! Have you ever met such a bunch of tight fisted moaners. What do you have to do to get them to put their hands in their pockets to donate a measly £5 for KAR. Such a worthwhile charity. Perhaps we shall have to offer an incentive. 5 free pints of Effes for every £5 donated. What do you think? wyn

Chris, I am beginning to think that members of this board are all moribund, staring at their computer screens, I thought my suggestion may at least draw a reaction! Please dont blame me for the donkey. I am an animal lover. I was only doing 64mph. Wacyjim and Jock1 conned me. Three legs! I can tell you I was hopping mad, never mind the donkey. I will sort those 2 on 24/9 . wyn

goonerstan, Fair question. Chris I believe is making donating in the UK easier. As a charity I assume that they make public a statement of their finances. We readily appreiciate that there are other good causes to consider, but the request WAS ONLY FOR A £5 to help allieviate so much sufferring. My view, thats all, wyn

Well put Goonerstan. So we are all tight fisted moaners are we if we don't spout on about donating a measly fiver in the way that you would like us to. Why on earth would I send £5 to the UK when I live in TRNC. I've done far better than your paltry little donation by homing a dog from the streets which is a full time commitment and expense. Chris, what you are trying to do is commendable but Wyn is really doing you no favours with his attempt at "drawing a reaction". I would distance yourself from it if I were you.

well said Jo. Homing them is the real way forward with spaying and castration a must, to keep the numbers down. My respect to those who give a stray a home for life.

There was supposed to be somebody else collecting for KAR in the TRNC, and I said I would start a fund up in the UK for anybody who would like to make a donation. Everybody is entitled to their opinion on what to donate to, and obviously nobody can be forced to support a cause they do not believe in. I myself have always had rescue cats, but it wasnt until I visited North Cyprus and witnessed for myself two dogs being thrown out of a car, both with their leads still attached, both of them running, trying to catch up with their 'owner' until they became exhausted , that I realised the problem. I feel Kar should get all the help and support it can, and if I can raise a few quid for them I will. Anybody who takes a stray or a rescue animal is to be commended, but it doesnt stop some people wanting to do or give more. My opinion, thats all. Chris

Absolutely agree Chris but we all do things in our own way and don't need to be insulted and ridiculed by someone who seems to think they are being very magnanimous by sending a fiver to a good cause.

I personally think that all people that donate or re- home or even sponsor a animal from Kar is to be commended because what ever anyone does to help out is a bonus to them, We have also tried to get pet shops and pet warehouses to sponsor Kar but because the rescue isn't in the UK they wont do it but some have made donations of collars leads and other useful items for animals that we take over with us when visiting.Kar really do appreciate any little thing that people do for them.

Hi found this hope its still in date: Other ways you can help – you can sponsor an animal, you can make a donation or set up a standing order as we have done into the charity’s UK bank account - Bank: HSBC, Sort Code: 40-21-02, Account Number: 11364812. You can post a cheque payable to Kyrenia Animal Rescue to PO Box 450, Girne, Mersin 10, Turkey or you can give good quality new and used items to the charity shop to sell which can be found at No12 Bozkirli Sokak in Kyrenia (Girne, it’s near the fire station. Finally, the charity’s website is http://www.kyreniaanimalrescue.org/ and we sincerely hope you will join us in doing what you can to help keep KAR going…

Chris....I personally think what you are doing in the UK is brilliant and I admire you for taking the time to set it up. My hubby and I are now resident here in TRNC but when we first came to visit the Island we were shocked at the amount of stray animals, some in appalling condition. We had a Battersea Dog/cat Home rescue dog at the time and the thought of our dog without food and shelter and a little love and attention pulled at our heart strings. When we got back to the UK we decided to do something to raise some pennies for KAR and showed our work collegues the KAR website. A group of us walked 17 London bridges and raised over £2,000. My hubby even put a collection box out at work (with an official sticker we requested from KAR) and we were amazed how full it got. KAR were very grateful and we felt that the little bit we had done would help in some way. Does it matter who/how money is raised.....its all about raising peoples awareness to the plight of the animals over and doing our little bit to bring a bit of comfort into their lives. Keep up the good work and dont be put off by the knockers!!

Puppylover. I dont think anyone intenionly were knocking the good work certain people are doing for KAR, its just that people like to do their own thing and not being harrassed by certain posters to donate. When we first visited N/Cyprus many years ago there were stray dogs everywhere they outnumbered humans, though there are to many still it is nothing to what it used to be, thanks to KAR Good luck to Chris in her quest.

Chick...hear what you are saying and to a certain extent agree with what you are saying. On a lighter note...our neighbour who is staying in her villa for a month witnessed a van pull up last week outside her property and a puppy was thrown onto the pavement. She went and rescued it and took it to the vet...it turn out to be a 12 week old pure bred Boxer...he really is a cutie. Her kids (and her!!)have fallen in love with it and she has made all the arrangements to take it back to the UK (arranged by KAR). It will be joining her other rescue animals in the UK (goats, rabbits, peacocks etc) once it has gone through the quarantine process. We are so pleased for this pup who has not had a good start to life. Would have loved to have given it a home myself but we adopted a 4 week old pup (now a lovable 15 week old) when we had only been here a couple of weeks...absolutely love him to bits. Hope to get him a playmate when I can persuade hubby that 2 is better than one!!

Hi joanandjelly. We went shopping on Saturday at Newcastle and thereafter The Metro Centre. 8 people asked me for charitable donations. Not all got something. I dont give to schools as I believe that is the job of Government. NEVER once did I tell collectors, what they were doing was wrong. I commended them for their efforts and comittment. Never once was I asked if had given to that particular charity before. Such is the nature of charitable collections. Please forgive me if I pointed out the plight of creatures not able to beg for themselves. If I hit a raw nerve of the collective conscious that leaves people feeling uncomfortable. I appologise. In my view I was acting in good faith .The measly £5 mentioned was my contribution alone. It should have been more! I appologise if I caused you offense. wyn

I'm sorry Wyn but you did cause me offence and I dare say countless other people on this forum by suggesting that we are tight fisted whingers because we have not responded (in your eyes) to Chris's fund raising. I'm sure you would have been a bit put out if those charity collectors are the Metro Centre called you rude names. For the record I 100% support what Chris is trying to do. I support KAR here directly and have re-homed a fantastic dog. That's all you need to know.

Madam, Cyprus44 is a public forum. Postings are there for the public. You must pick from these postings what is applicable to you, and should only respond accordingly For the record I spent yesterday collecting for Marie Stopes Cancer Nurses, I do not feel I NEED TO WEAR my heart on my sleeve .It is my affair. I give weekly to animal charities in the UK in memory of our beloved dog that we lost 1 year ago. One thing I would never do is tell someone who is acting in good faith, to distance themselves from someone who is acting in equally good intent. I offended no one my comment of a measly £5. That was a self deprecating remark, in the context that I needed to do more. If you sought to interpret it otherwise, that is not my problem. I begged for funds for KAR because of a posting last week where car were unable to help through a lack of funds. I thanked anyone that responded. Many people give to charity, without a second thought, and never talk about it. It does not mean bona fide fundraisers can never ask for a donation. How do they know that you have already given?. It is their right to ask, just as it is your legitimate right to refuse. I of course applaud that you have taken in a stray dog, but surely it is little more than any decent thinking human being would do It does not detract from your kindness, I trust that you now understand that my postings were in good faith, and for the ultimate benefit of stray animals in The TRNC. wynyardman

Lightening the mood a bit............. One day a cat dies of natural causes and goes to heaven. There he meets the Lord Himself. The Lord says to the cat, "You lived a good life and if there is any way I can make your stay in Heaven more comfortable, please let Me know." The cat thinks for a moment and says, "Lord, all my life I have lived with a poor family and had to sleep on a hard wooden floor." The Lord stops the cat and says, "Say no more," and a wonderful fluffy pillow appears. A few days later, six mice are killed in a tragic farming accident and go to heaven. Again, there is the Lord there to great them with the same offer. The mice answered, "All of our lives we have been chased. We have had to run from cats, dogs and even women with brooms. Running, running, running; we're tired of running. Do you think we could have roller skates so we don't have to run anymore?" The Lord says, "Say no more," and fits each mouse with beautiful new roller skates. About a week later the Lord stops by to see the cat and finds him snoozing on the pillow. The Lord gently wakes the cat and asks him, "How are things since you got here?" The cat stretches and yawns and replies, "It is wonderful here. Better than I could have ever expected. And those 'Meals On Wheels' you've been sending by are the best!" Chris

The acts of animal cruelty in the uk have escalated to unbelievable nos so we can no longer condemn other nations for poor animal welfare. We all need to accept that we are no more and no less important than any of the other species sharing this planet, We all need to take responsibility and take action to help rather than harm, We are not superior but the most dangerous of all the animals that have ever lived.
