Word of warning Wife was with a friend in Barishka clothes shop in Ledra Street and the friend had her purse stolen. My wife understands Greek and the shop owner said (in a nutshell) that it was tough luck and it was better Turkish Cypriots didnt come to his shop and make problems!! When the Police were called they said they had about 3 calls to this same shop every week and had told the owner to put in a camera but he said he didnt want to. From what they were told it also seems that TC's are specifically targetted in this shop (and in general). Shop with caution ladies!

My wife had her purse stolen in that area a few months ago - loads of hassle with renewing cards etc.

This has been going on for a long time. My mum had her bag stolen in Peacocks, opposite bershka, 2 years ago, had our passports in it and it we were held for almost 2 hours at the border when we tried to cross back over, despite having a police report etc.
