Hubby and I are in the process of taking driving lessons here in TRNC in the hope that one/both of us will pass the test!! As we are in no way experts we were wondering if any helpful members could recommend a car for first time drivers/buyers. We will be looking for an automatic - quite like the Toyota Vitz that we are both having our lessons in or the Suzuki Swift (my choice!!) Has anyone any experience of either of these cars...good or bad? Or could you recommend a car. Any advice gratefully received. Regards "L" Drivers!!

Toyota's are very reliable good quality cars. Suzuki should stick to building bikes only!

hi puppylover,i dont know if the rules are the same in n/c as in the uk but if so then when, you pass your test in an auotmatic car you cant drive a manual car but if you pass in a manual car you can also drive an automatic on the same licence.if you only intend too drive automatics, once you have passed your tests then this information is irrelevant. good luck with your driving lessons.

Cruggs Thank you for your good wishes. Apparently if/when we pass in an automatic we can drive both automatic and manual over here. Not a good idea in my book but then this is TRNC..... Will be going for an automatic regardless....the brain (and being a woman...yes, I admit it!!) cannot cope with gear changes etc......taking the easy way!! Only on 3rd lesson but instructor says I'm good at the driving part...mirrors,speed etc.....it's the 3 point turns I'm struggling with....but practice makes perfect...or capable in my case!! By the way ladies...Instructor says it is common knowledge over here that we Brit woman are the best drivers over here...we are careful and courteous. Sorry lads...just passing on what I was told...please don't shoot me!!

hi puppylover, would you like a blindfold while i load my rifle.i think that most people find the 3 point manouver hard not just women but men as well, just remember not to bump the curb on the backwards or forwards manouver and as you say practice makes perfect.my wife passed her driving test years ago and still can"t parallel park, try not to worry about it and it just comes to you. good luck with your lessons
