Hi Mrs Snakes

I would recommend that your daughter does not attempt to take any cigs bought in the North into Larnaca. They will be confiscated and she may well be fined if she is caught with them at the border.

The allowance (as far as I know) is 20 cigarettes per person allowed over the border.

She could, of course, take a chance and buy some and put them in her case in the hope that they won't be found. I think they're around £2.00 ish for 20 - £20.00 for 200.

I have never been searched when going South, after 6 years, but then I haven't had luggage with me !!

You may never have been searched going South, but I know several who have been, when returning to the UK.

It's a much, much higher risk than bringing cigarettes back into the UK. over & above the duty free alloowance.

One frend got fined when crossing at Metehan in the evening. He did not have enough to pay the fine, so he was taken to a cash machine. The end result could have been that the couple also missed their flight.

The fine was several hundred pounds & together with the confiscation of the cigarettes made it a very expensive experience.

Yes, but that's because (I assume) you've never been stopped and searched? As I said, it's a chance you take but I would also take note of scruff's posting regarding what CAN happen if you ARE stopped and searched.

33 euros for 200 Superkings & 34 euros for 200 B & H at Larnaca Airport. Not worth the bother of trying to take more than the 40 you're allowed from North to South. I have bought cigarettes when we've landed at Larnaca and packed them in the suitcase when we return home but always make sure I have the receipt to hand in case we are stopped at the crossing.
