| Cyprus Turkish Airlines suspends flights My daughter flew to Izmir in Turkey on June 21 with Cyprus Turkish Airlines (KTHY), which has been grounded because of debt problems. Will the airline ensure she gets a flight home? The rest of us have reservations with KTHY for later in July. Will these be honoured or should we assume we need to find alternative flights? Gail Lewis, Northampton Gill Charlton replies Cyprus Turkish Airlines has suspended flying while it tries to refinance its debt. This is difficult to do in the current climate and it may not succeed. If you want to be certain of travelling to Turkey, it would make sense to buy new flights. If the airline does go under, it will not be obliged to get your daughter home; she will need to buy a new flight. You can apply for a refund of the unused tickets through your credit card provider or through your insurer if your cover includes SAFI (scheduled airline failure insurance).
