Twice now at Ileli Alsancak we have been deliberately overcharged . The first time we had only bought 2 items and the cashier added a 5tl phone topup. The second time was yesterday, when, on checking the bill after a weekly shop, we found the same cashier had added a 16TL deposit for a gas bottle. In both instances the manager was called and an immediate refund obtained What a shame that one member of staff can ruin the reputation of a supermarket that has probably the friendliest and most helpful staff.

It is unfortunate that this happens as we use Illeli a lot. The staff on the till seem to be the same two girls in the last year and always appear pleasant. We find that they are in such a rush to push your goods through when there isnt another customer behind you so it is difficult to keep a check on whats going on. There is often someone there to pack the goods and although they seem offended when I say its okay I will pack my self, I do this so I am not distracted. I am often short changed, yesterday, there was Persil added then deducted....I only had a few beers and wine in the basket. I was short changed and so I stood there and asked for it.....I have done this several times with the same girl. She opened the til and 'dropped' the money in my hand. It happens also in Starling next door. I was offered a bubblegum last week instead of the change!! I said I dont chew gum, I want my change!! She said she didnt have it in her till. So I asked her to get it from the other till.

What a shame! We use this supermarket regularly when we're there and have recommended it to many others. You have to ask yourself why this happens so often - Ileli had such a good reputation - why do they start doing this? I must say many businesses in TRNC seem to have blinkered vision, with the bars who have no customers putting up their prices, etc. We were overcharged at a restaurant last month that we'd been using for years. I do hope the management at Ileli take swift action before the good reputation the shop has earned goes completely down the swannee.

RE msg 4, Jeannie: (...) why do they start doing this? (...) => I'm sure you don't mean what you wrote, Jeannie! Wouldn't it have been better to write: "Why did she do this?"

We shop there all the time and have never been short changed, in fact I've seen them push through veg without charging, and even rounding the bill down in some cases. In a few cases we have been a few lira short and we just bring it in the following day. I can't see that happening in the UK. It may have been a genuine mistake, we all have off days

I have to say, we always shop in Ileli and have never found the staff to be anything other than wonderful. They regularly round our bill down and on numerous occasions have let us off a significant amount if we have not had the right change etc. They have taken on a number of new staff recently so I suspect it may be one of the new girls.

Addendum to message No. 12 Perhaps I should have added that we have never had anything but first class service at Ileli and found the girls there helpful in the extreme. Jean

Better training for staff would help also serving one customer at time and not letting other jump in during a transaction for cigarettes and phone top-ups, once a transaction has started they should stand in the queue. These queue jumper distract the cashier during a transaction and they try to serve 2 or 3 people at the same time.

I have spoken to the Ileli girls and they are very upset that some of us are less than satisfied with the service. They have taken onboard all comments and are addressing the situation. I am assured that any mistakes were just that - mistakes.
