FIRST Emergency The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile; network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialled even if the keypad is locked. Try it out. SECOND Have you locked your keys in the car? Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you.

There does seem to be a lot of debate on various forums as to whether tip (2) actually works... The consensus would appear to be that if the remote fob transmits a simple AF (audio frequency) signal = possibly modulated onto an RF (radio frequency) carrier, then it MIGHT just be possible, if the key fob is near enough to the phone to cause 'cross modulation', and the 'receiving phone' is near enough to the car to 'swamp' the security system. However, as the vast majority of 'newish' cars employ systems using RKE security encoding, it appears that this trick will not work for most of us...: - http://www.snopes.com/autos/techno/keyless.asp If you DO find that it works for you, please ring me on 0533 830 1835, and I'll be happy to eat my hat!

rigsby, tried selling the idea that it was another good reason to let me have another porsche but the wife wouldn't buy it. She said I should buy a cheap car that this phone thing works on, then I wouldn't have to wait for the taxi. Can't beat a womans logic I suppose
