| Anglers at the Earlswood Reservoir’s Engine Pool had long reported stories of a creature biting through their lines. The creature has been caught a few times before but had always escaped. Mr Bellion, from Solihull, told The Sun: ‘It was hissing and snapping and could easily have taken your hand off.’ It is thought the ancient female – part of North America’s largest species of freshwater turtle – was given as a pet which grew too big and was released into the lake. The creature was taken to West Midlands Safari Park by British Waterways staff where it may now mate with a resident male.
