| 21 Turks of Cyprus from the village of Matyat have filed legal action at the European Court of Human Rights for their property from which they were forced to flee on the 23rd of December 1963. The group is demanding compensation for the loss of use of their properties currently located in South Cyprus as well as its restitution. A statement issued by the group of 21 plantiffs said that they had taken to the issue to the European Court of Human Rights after they failed to receive a proper reply to their application made to the Greek Cypriot Ministry of Interior as well as the rejection of their application by the Greek Cypriot Attorney General on the grounds that the application was made in Turkish. The statement pointed out that a large part of the properties in the village of Matyat was Turkish and that they were demanding restitution of the properties as well as compensation for the loss of its use for the past 47 years. |
