Rather than take advice from forum members which in this case is going to be a best guess, why not just take the time to drive down and see customs for an estimate. Simples !!

Go to the customs man in Lefkosa he will tell you you don't have to pay there and then but its just gone up and no published figures yet have been seen Zero posted that its now 40% of glasses guide it was 28% and the"$" per cc has increased .The first year road tax would have been 600TL ish half for the vehicle and half for the fee but no doubt that will have gone up

Its summer opening so the day you pay it get there before 9 when you go for your cost before 11:15

Good luck I did mine last month before the rise

when we took the car into TRNC we went to customs and I was given a price of 2,600 GBP and I actually got all this in writing. I went to the ladies in the office next door and was told that I didn't have to pay this until the road tax ran out (which was June 2010) Now we coming home in August to sort out a few things including the taxes and duties on the car......so I will take all my paperwork, a Turkish speaking friend and a few bob for backhanders and see how I get on. In my experience of ALL govt departments and Utilities......a few lira notes as a thank you for your trouble works wonders. Don't you just love a corrupt society ??? Travelled and lived all over the world and everywhere is the same.

Hi

We imported our car Dec 2008 1.6 Astra UK book value £8000 in all we paid £4500 that includes import tax.registration, first years road tax & number plates + 20 tl for someone to sign a form !!.

Please be aware we took sterling with us to pay, as all the figures quoted where in sterling then had to go and change it to tl as they would not accept pound notes.

I don't know if it has changed but after getting our customs quote we then had to go to the trade office to obtain the import paperwork. They wanted copies of our passports, sales contracts, bank statements and i think a muktors letter cant be sure on that one best to enquire or you could be running backwards and forwards for stuff

Hope this helps a little
