I'm not usually one for complaining and this might be frivolous, but I'm gonna complain anyway. This is just a warning so you know what to expect, if you complain about your Efes tasting as though it had soap in it.

Last night, my wife, son and i went for a drink at the Cabin and was watching a guy play the pipes, you know the south american type, very good he was too. Waiter came, took drinks order, 2 pint Efes & a Baileys and all was fine.

Beer came and both of our pints tasted as though they has soap in them, so after one small sip, I took them both back and explained the situation and checked they had given me draft. They had, so I said I didn't want another as they would be the same. The barman offered me bottles, which I took back to the table and drank, all was fine. Went to pay the bill and they had charged me for 4 efes, including the bad ones. When I queried it with the barman, a guy whom I assumed was either the manager of the owner came up and asked what the ..c

....cont

problem was, I explained and he said what do you want me to do about it. He said he was losing out if he gave me a bottle instead of a soapy Efes. At which time I said I would never return and he said fine, so...... I am just letting everyone know that if you ever have a problem at the Cabin, don't expect it to be sorted.

He asked where I was from and when I said that in England you would take the drink back and expect it to be replaced, he said "Not here".......Bye Bye The Cabin in Lapta...

McSteviet...I don't think your complaint is frivolous.

And unlike many who complain about poor service etc on here, you actually gave the management the opportunity to put things right.

They chose not too , and lost your custom ,and probably a lot more besides.

The mentality of some of these places is beyond belief !

At Jessics a few weeks back there was a problem with the draught Fosters. Anyone who complained about said Fosters was given a replacement Efes or bottle of their choice at no extra cost. Vote with your feet guys!

Steve you did the right thing you went to the management and gave them the opportunity to put things right, they did not take you up on that.

I have never been to the Cabin, but if that's how they treat their customer's, I will not be one of them.

Sorry to hear that the cabin had that attitude towards you McSteviet, we always go there when we are over and have always had good servise and good food. It is such a shame that these resteraunts do not treat their customers as paying customers.

Always treat your customers that they are right, even if they are wrong, you can say or think what you like when they have gone. But, they will come back....

You are amusing and quick to insult and chastise people but alas that is the limit of your capabilities and soon people will tire of your insults and rants, we will begin to yawn and despair that you choose to spend your free time hiding behind your old computer slagging people off at will, you should get out more but can i suggest you give the hat back to your mate first it really doesn't suit you.

Just to let you know, yes the cabin do come on this board.

I've spent many a good evening there, and a few lunches. Ilhan and his family are very hospitable.

He and his wife have just had a baby boy, therefore I presume he has better things to do than come on here

and explain himself. Even if he could, his English is limited.

As for those who have never visited the cabin, and say they won't now, well...........it's your loss.

I feel so sorry for anyone on this Island trying to please eveyone. Good new takes a long time to

spread, one slight problem spreads like diarreah.

If you do read this Ilhan, keep up the good work Canim, see you soon, xx

I was surprised to read of the way Steve and his family were treated at the Cabin, we go there often and have always been treated well, any odd problem has been quickly sorted out with no ill feeling. As has been said it's well worth giving Ilhan and staff another chance.

I can't comment on The Cabin as I have never been there.

What I have observed elsewhere is that some bar staff/landlords/landladies, often Brits, not identifying the difference between a "tourist" and an unknown ex-Pat, may often offer less than best service under the assumption that they are "only" a tourist and will never see them again so need not worry about losing them.

We all know what assume stands for.

The smoking ban was not in force last year, this year smoking is not allowed indoors as in most other establishments but of course now that people are sitting outside they are allowed to smoke, the Cabin is no different in that than anywhere else.

Wow..... all this from one complaint about bad beer/service!

I think that everyone has a right to complain, and a right to 'vote with their feet' too. One man's favourite restaurant is another man's worst, and that will always be the case. I for one would prefer to be told if there is bad service at any place, then I have an informed choice as to go there or not.

Agree that is often the philosophy ,they have got it all wrong. Tourists should be treated better as they are less willing to look for excuses as we are,ie should have spoken Turkish , should have paid in YTL,the embargo etc.Every expat that is dissatisfied is preaching to the converted, whereas every dissatisfied tourist tell 20 when he gets home.

WE have often gone to the Cabin on our holidays, and Ilhan and Songul have always done their best to please not only us but all of the other people that go in. They have a member of staff (that is quite new and young) so I wonder if this was who had the bad attitude. I did on one ocasion complain to Ilhan about him but it was soon rectified and evryone was happy.

I have always received great service from the Cabin and everyone there is extremely friendly. Perhaps they just simply had an off moment. It must be difficult for them to be consistently upbeat, courteous and pleasant 7 days a week. We all have our limitations.

Well said Flower fairy. The cabin is excellent. I am wondering if it was the owner that was approached or a member or staff. There is no excuse if this was the case but maybe the owner wasnt even aware of this event as he hasnt been there alot lately due the arrival of his beautiful baby.

NC would be a better place if more people showed the entrepreneurial spirit of the owner of the Cabin. I was extremely impressed with him, in the way that he opened up a bar on the other side of the road in readiness to show the world cup games.

I left NC before the bar had been completed. I have no idea if it worked or if it was a failure. Anyway, well done to him for giving it a try. NC needs more people with his energy and enthusiasm.

Going right back to the first posting:

"I explained and he said what do you want me to do about it. He said he was losing out if he gave me a bottle instead of a soapy Efes."

There is a certain reluctance from some people to take what they consider to be "blame" and always look to pass it on and away.

I think that this may say a lot about the Cabins relationship with the Efes company, who don't seem to have an understanding ref Ullage.

It should be perfectly clear from the outset between the Cabin and Efes that there will be occasions where beer is unsalable and a credit given.

Ift this was the case the unfortunate event might not have taken place.

I remember well when Jan sold draft Gold Fassl at the Corner Bar and often had a duff barrel. He told me the brewery replaced it without quibble.

Nicely put ilovecyprus

The taste of beer can be affected by many things, fatty foods etc and since there has been no other complaint I think Ilhan should put a sign up:-

To all British expats

Would you please ensure that all Steradent is removed from teeth prior

to drinking our beer

Slightly off topic, but along the lines of Vaughan's "Blame" scenario.

I have a 2.5 x 1.0 X 1.4 metal cage for storing logs. The cage will hold a maximum of 3.5 metric tons. My usual log man arrived with his lorry with a measurement of 5.0 x 2.5 x 0.47, which means he can hold just under 6 metric tons.

He unloaded all his logs and there were about 10 logs that would not fit in the cage. He then wanted to discuss who should lose!

He delivered about 6 tons but I received under 4, so where does the problem lie?

I explained that his lorry could hold about 6 tons, IF all the logs were placed with minimal gaps. He said, "could it be magic", then we both sang along to Barry Manilow!

He's a decent guy, so we sorted it amicably.

As I understand it the smoking ban came into force on Jan 1st 2010, perhaps Lilli can confirm which is correct.

Texas,

Bearing in mind that a 'Forestry Tonne' (by which firewood and logs are bought and sold) is the amount of wood which will sit into a cube 1.1M x 1.1M x 1.1M (1.331 cu M), then I reckon that the maximum that your cage will hold is 2.63 Forestry Tonnes.

You've been ROBBED!

I can undertstand people being upset when they get poor service. However, in defence of Ilhan I have to say my friends were at the Cabin on Monday night and she told me this morning that the Chef walked out because the volume of orders which he couldn`t cope with. If it was Ilhan you talked to McSteviet then I think he could

be forgiven for being under a lot of stress. It`s not easy in catering, especially in this heat and I would not like to do it here. I understand there is a new chef there now so things have probably settled down, so why dont you give it another chance?

There seemed not to be too much to be stressed about that night. There were not that many people in and those that were, were not eating. there was a young barman that served my drinks and I initially complained to him, but soon, a "manager/owner" came up to the bar and the rest is in message 1/2. I don't know who he was, he didn't have a name tag on, just a red Hawaiian shirt. He was sat with 2/3 other men enjoying themselves until I obviously spoilt their party.

We too thought we should have said we lived in TRNC and we might have got a different answer, not that the answer should be in anyway different.

Wyn, no G&T, can't stand it. Sat in the Sempati right now with a decent Efes, thanks Erkan....
