Sorry, I can't tell you the price but I was told last week that a woman on the Lambousa market has Frontline.

Hi Marcosthechef.

You should try Perova Garden Centre, or Green Garden. We have the drops and the collars, and they are all effective, and quite a bit cheaper than Frontline.

Hope to see you soon.

Have you tried a chemist anywhere? Usually stocked here. We get ours locally from a chemist. As I remember 3 doses were around 55TL.

Have you thought about buying Paraband collars for your dogs? 30TL each, they last for 3 months and cover ticks, sandflies and fleas. All the vets sell them.

Lilli,

The vet tells us collars are a suitable remedy on their own. The collars purport to last 6 months but Firdez the vet say it's best to replace them after three due to the heat.

Of course should a tick attach itself to your pet a dab of Frontline direct onto the tick will kill it instantly.

Nothing will stop a tick from attaching or trying to attach, so don't expect ticks to give your pet a wide-berth just because it's been treated. Which ever remedy you choose (Paraband collar or Frontline) will then kill the parasite should it stay on your pet for long or draw blood.

Hi, Steve sells Bob Martin, not Frontline. You will find most chemists sell frontline, but it can vary in price at different chemists. As my cats are longhaired, the collars don't work for them, as don't stay next to the skin long enough, plus if I'm honest, I don't like the look of them on their lovely hair, so I stick to Frontline. Pertev also sells it and the other vets, although they do tend to be a little more expensive.

Interesting to read that someone bought some in Tesco. When I was in the Uk in May this year - my local petsmart and boots both displayed notices stating that frontline is now only available on prescription from the vets. Wish I had known about Tesco!!

Para band do not prevent ticks so I think Lilli is right you need both.

We frontline our dog, when she had a collar aswell it caused a reaction to the skin under the collar,Pertev advised us to remove the collar as a double dose was too strong.

Groucho/msg 13: 'Of course should a tick attach itself to your pet a dab of Frontline direct onto the tick will kill it instantly.'

Get a cotton bud - dip it in acetone [nailpolish remover] - dab onto tick - that'll 'stop it swearing in church' - it'll soon let go and drop off!

Cheaper remedy than 'FrontLine' dontcha think?

We used to always get our dog Frontlined (though it wasn't actually Frontline) at the vets and it cost around 50TL. He has now had a Paraband collar for the last 6 months or so and he hasn't had any ticks at all and he hasn't been Frontlined.

Paraband works against sand flies and ticks, frontline against fleas and ticks. I've ordered frontline before from http://www.viovet.co.uk who delivered here for £10 Royal Mail international signed for. At the moment 6 extra large dog (about 25ml in total) is £29.75. Guess it depends how much you order whether that's worth your while or not. They can't however send Paraband (Scalibor in the UK), as that requires a prescription.

Just noticed the original question was about the spray not the pipettes. The spray is £24.29 on the site for 250ml - but needs a prescription (spot on doesn't) so that's not much help to you. The paraband collars are 30tl here, and should last 6 months against ticks, although I know some vets here recommend changing them every three months for sand flies, so wouldn't that be a better tick preventative than the frontline spray?

Mark. You are meant to take the Paraband collars off before letting your dog get wet. I would have thought that the Frontline will wash off if recently applied.

Tenakoutou, good idea, must stock up on it!

Frontline is good stuff but I wouldn't use both on a regular basis - too much medication.

I keep some 'Bob Martin Spot-on' for treating strays. It only costs about £2 a phial in the UK.

I know the pipettes have a turkish equivalent (same drug, same strength) but I can't remember the name so there maybe an equivalent spray. We use Advantix drops from Sible at Pet Life for our dogs. It covers fleas, ticks and sand fly but does have to be done every 3 weeks during the summer months but the advantage is it's cheaper than Frontline and Paraband and the dogs can go into the water without having to remember to remove collars first. I don't know how big your dogs are but we got 4 pipettes for 100TL for dogs of 10 - 25kg. Maybe worth considering. If you have a friendly vet in the UK who will supply a prescription, Advantix is very cheap at http://www.chemistdirect.co.uk and maybe ask a friend to bring it out.
