This is now getting beyond a joke.

Nigel & Pat Watson who most know were burgled last night while in bed. Broken window and cash stolen.

They have 2 dogs that normally bark at slightest noise but somehow passed them without waking.

The Police acted in their usual efficient way, a quick interview and statemnet for insurance, no finger prints or whatever. Same as our do last week.

Are we going to have to start our own protection force??

There have been 2 further incidents on top of ours, in Karsiyaka that I have been made aware of in last couple of weeks, all involving the same family that live in the village.

Please be on your guard, do not sleep with windows and doors open. I know it is hot but do not take the risk.

Also any sign of ANYBODY suspicious call the police every time.

Get yourself some internal motion detectors for unoccupied rooms at night. Have the alarm fixed to sound both in and outside the building.

The only extra required is a big stick!!

How do you know that it is a part of a family in the village I presume the police know?

The police told us who they suspect and people in the village are fully aware what this family get up to.

Last week one of them got the treatment after doing something illegal to a Cypriot household. Probablem is it does not stop them.

We know the family and have experience minor theft problems at home before, they are always around the village. Most people know them.

Obviously we can all make assumptions but as the police do not, probably due to lack of resources, do scenes of crime investigation there can be no definitive without a confession. As a victim we obviously want the ******* caught, but the right one and not a stich up.

AGAIN, IF LIVING AROUND KARSIYAKA MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS LOCKED DOWN TIGHT.

For those of us in Karsiyaka that do not know the family, could you give us some discriptions so that we can keep our eyes peeled. Thanks

Often with an old lady. Boy about 12, blotchy face usually seen with hand out begging. Older boy, quite stocky. There mother is sometimes seem with them. Afraid the intelligence is lacking and 12 year old does not go to school as far as we can ascertain.

They are not a TC family.

They have been seen as far as Girne begging and walk for miles around Karsiyaka and Lapta. You will see them at any time of day.

Advice from TC friends in Karsiyaka is chase them and whatever you do, do not hand over any cash. The TC villagers do not like this family, they make that known.

Obviously we can not say with any certainty they broke into our house or any other but we are 99.9% certain of small items disappearing from around house in the past. Also found child had climbed over our ferforje on top of walls one day and on another occasion both he and grand mother climbed over. Where they came over there is a 10 foot drop on our side!

Whoever is guilty of the theft, be very careful.

They found their way down to our house last Thursday. We had been warned about them beforehand and we managed to get good, clear photos of the grandmother and the young boy. The grandmother was asking for food and water but the young boy apparently speaks some English and heard my neighbour say she was phoning the police. They left and sat over the field to us and the grandmother punched the boy in the face twice!! Some grandmother.

Anyway, I have left copies of the photos with our friends who are now staying in our house so they know not to entertain them. If anyone else wants them, email me on linnyloos@live.co.uk

ripoff, message 2.

Motion sensors are the way to go, good advice. We have them in every room that we don't use at night and when we go out in the day.

Though I am not sure about the external alarms. Our neighbours had one fitted and it sounded for 2 full days before the battery ran out. There was nobody looking after the house and they don't live there all the time. Very restfull for all of us... especially because they had hiddened it in the jasmine! Great.

They came back to find that a bird had come down the chimney which is what started it off. Another tale ( PUT MESH ON YOUR CHIMNEY! ) They had a dead bird and dead flies but live maggots all over the house.

I am in NO WAY condoning theft of any kind whatsoever but maybe this family literally has nothing to eat and no way of earning money and that is why they beg and resort to stealing. Is there nothing the local authorities can do for them? Has anyone spoken to the Muhtar about it?

I actually felt really sorry for them until she started punching the young boy! I would normally have given them some food and water but it was our last day and I didn't want them coming back time and again.

linnyloos,

Do not feel sorry for them. We tried to prevent the boy kicking grandma one day, another day a friend tried to stop him pushing her around in centre of village. The rest of the villagers will not intervene. He is not a full shilling and having already been subject to petty theft and abuse from them have no sympahty for them at all.

jo andjelly,

another none tc family have told us the amount that families like these receive from the state, they are not destitute!

I repeat, the large majority of TC give this family a wide berth and will advise you to do the same. This is TRNC not the suburbs of UK and unfortunatley things are done differnetly here, get involved and you will open yourself for all sorts.

Apparently, there is another boy that is older but he is hardly seen with them. Just after they left an older boy started walking down our roadway but our neighbour and I stood watching him. I don't know if this was the boy or not and I didn't get a photo of him as he had gone by the time I had fetched my camera.

We wondered if the grandmother and the young boy were a decoy for the older boy or not. Makes you think, doesn't it?

We certainly won't be feeding or watering them and will tell them quite clearly to 'clear off'. I'm not taking any chances on this one!

Fair enough David, I was just wondering. I've seen them a few times recently but the boy looks younger than 12.

msg 19: another none tc family have told us the amount that families like these receive from the state, they are not destitute!

This is quite true! I am friends with a lot of Turkish families in Karsiyaka, and this is what they have told me..

The young boy lives with his grandma and older brother. The mother has had a lot of troubles from the father's of these boys, and no longer has contact with the fathers, nor lives with the boys. The grandma gets a state benefit that pays for their care. sadly, all three have mental issues, and none are a full ticket. The young boy, has been taken into care several times, but he is too disturbed for them to treat, so they send him back home. It has also been witnessed, that he tortures animals, particularly puppies and small dogs...one neighbour caught him shoving a knife up the bum of a pup! (Sorry for the harsh image this conjures up).

The problem with this sort of problem, if you complain, there isn't a whole lot that can done...cont.

Except get a petition together, and have the whole village sign it...then perhaps something could be done. However...the family are entitled to see this petition, and people are afraid that they will be targeted, ie..have poison thrown into the garden, being burgled etc etc...plus you have the added feature of people not wanting to get involved.

I tried to find someone to help with this matter some time ago, (from social services...of a sort) because as most of you know, i am all about the animals, and the torturing of them made my blood boil...however, i was told, there was nothing else that could be done, as most avenues had already been explored.

So...all i can say further is...

Do not feed them

Do not give them money

Do not under any circumstance engage in any kind of conversation with them, you will be robbed later.

Mr Ted absolutely loathes them, and whenever they pass he goes completely mad with anger, hackles raised and everything, and he's normally a gentle soul.

Glad you clarified all that DD. We had been told from all the usual sources but did not wish to post without proof.

For those that do not know, DD is a near neighbour of said family and can speak with first hand knowledge. Last sentence about sums up the issue with problem families anywhere, what do you do with them.

In all honesty, there really isn't a whole lot that can be done about this family....trust me, i tried to do a lot almost a year ago, and all i got was a bunch of dead ends, and shoulder shrugs.

Get yourself a Mr Ted...and NEVER tell him off for barking when they pass...

Failing that, be VIGILANT!

Get a social worker and the local youth offending team down to see them, well maybe not a large dog and an electric fence may be better

Daisy is right, don't feed them and don't give them any money. It's like an animal, if you keep feeding it it will keep coming back. They'll eventually go away.

Please beaware that this family are out and about again.

About an hour ago my hubby scared them off from our neighbours house when he spotted them peering through their windows and trying to get in a patio door.

They are out and about with two dogs this time.

Police have been informed.
