Report out today that Olive Oil prices have already risen by 20% and are expected to soar further. Reason......Greek producers are stockpiling it because of the state of their economy! wyn

Lilli, I thought that if Newlads posting is accurate, then when The TRNC water pipeline is operational (if we live long enough) The TRNC people could hold up the water from the Greek South, because their economy is in a mess.

I will have to harvest my olives this year then, and sell a few bottles locally.... put a few quid back in the coffers for a change! Have always let local families have my olives to date...

is there a cooperative olive press where you can take a small quantity of olives (a few buckets full, we only have 3 trees) and they will press it into oil for you? I noticed a press is Karsiyaka but don't know if they will do this.

Bad news for Lilli. The Ialians source up to 75% of their olives for oil production from Greece! It became a bit of scandal in the late 1990s as the Italians were accused misleading consumers. I think it will take a bit more than that to scandalise us these days. DD

msg 6, Laptamike; If you dont have enough to press, the mill owner will give you some oil instead. Not as much as you'd get from your olives may be but better then nothing.

yorgozlu, thanks for that. I thought that might be the case. It's fine by me. A bit of free olive oil is better than olives rotting on the trees.
