Did anyone see David on the last Jonathan Ross show last Friday?

What a delightful and impressive young man he has grown into his parents in particular must be very proud.

I agree Doug. There was a better interview on the net, set up by Yahoo. Gabby Logan interviews him and he took questions from 19 countries live on air.

He does so much for charities. A true gentleman.

Always liked him even when others were trying to pull him down. Never in the limelight for the wrong reasons except by Rebecca Loos - appropriate name for the woman!

Seems to be a real family man who agores his wife and children.

When Beckham left Man U some say that it was because Alex Ferguson's ego would not allow him to have somebody at the club who was more popular than himself. How sad that now Beckham is receiving admiration for his devotion to Football and acts modestly to calls for him to be England Manager that Ferguson should choose this time to say "I could have had that job twice" then rubbish the role. He should have said nothing. If Beckham is knighted it will be richly deserved and I believe he will conduct himself as a gentleman Knight of the Realm and devote his life to the betterment of football and the youngsters joining the game, unlike Ferguson who manipulates the game and is ungracious to all those he sees as adversaries to his ambitions.

Liz - good Lord - I only hope you''re wrong!

I agree with all that's been said on here about David Beckham - I think he's a fine young man and a great ambassador for football in this country.

But, please spare me the thought of 'Lady' Victoria.. Christ help us if that ever happens!

Hi Tiggy re message 14

I'm certain that every experienced manager of professional football clubs in every country of the world would disagree with your assesment of David's football ability.

My opinion Doug.

Crossing a ball and taking free kicks. The Press have made him what he is......not his footballing ability.

Regards.

Doug,

You are right. He has matured beyond what one would normally expect and he has my respect for that and for what he does to help youngsters today.

Soccer wise, he was one of the best for taking free kicks but "middle of the road" as a professional soccer player in skills and ability! The media actually helped his career.

But nonetheless, has turned out to be a man of integrity and confidence!

Well done Becks!

I am a Man Utd supporter ...

Hi All

All Jimmy Greaves could do was to score goals providing the ball was within the goal kick area

All Peter Shilton did was to stop shots and was vunerable to high crosses

Bobby Moore was the slowest footballer ever to play for England, he could not kick with his left foot and was rubbish in the air.

Bobby Charlton never made one meaningful tackle, and only scored once with his head and never fell back to help the defence.

I would suggest all of the above would be described as world class players and I would suggest that each and everyone of them would welcome David Beckham gracing their elite club.

regards

Doug

I suspect the media impacted negatively on the number of caps david won.

I agree with those who observe that he is limited in many soccer skills but the fact is that he dedicated his whole career to enhancing what talents he had naturally, until he is the best in the world at what he brings to the game. He would probably admit that he has had no great education, nor is he articulate, but over the years, in spite of great wealth, and unlike some who are equally rich, he has blossomed into a well rounded and thoroughly likeable personality. His love for the game, and his desire to play a part in improving it for all, especially youngsters, shines through. As the old guard who admininster football in the UK fade away year upon year, I will be delighted if he remains involved, and adds his enthusiasm and right minded conduct to the system.

Comparing Becks with Greavsie, Bobby Moore and Bobby Charlton.

Hi Newscoop

Read my piece again and try to understand the content before sending off a posting which does little to enhance your knowledge of football.

dougskud;

I saw Greavsie score more than a few long rangers and free kicks.

Agree on Shilton, but the debate should stop with Banks.

Bobby Moore's anticipation and decision making was first class.

Bobby Charlton had a few more strings to his bow than one header and a thunderbolt shot.

All the above were exceptional footballers and leagues ahead of Beckham

Beckham is a product of the commercial age but he shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as any of the above.

Next you'll say he's comparable to George Best.

Hi Newscoop

you are again showing your lack of in depth football knowledge, making apple and apple comparisons with great footballers all of whom are great, but contributed their greatness in vastly different ways.

"lack of depth in football knowledge"

What apart from your hero worship of the one trick pony allows you to make a pronunciation like that?

Ex West Ham?

Gooner?

United fan from Essex?

And what's with the "apple and apple?"

If you seriously believe Beckham is the equal of those great players then you have a problem.

Hi Newscoop

There is no point continuing this dialogue as you don't seem able to understand the points I'm making.

By all means enjoy having the last world.
