Hubby and I moved into our own villa just over a week ago and are loving it. Can hardly believe we are actually here, lying by our own pool and soaking up the sun while everyone back in UK is sick of rain! We have had great service from loads of people, with the record being 4 sunbeds and cushions purchased at 4.30 pm and delivered before 6 pm the same day. Everyone has been so helpful and special thanks to our pals who have helped us so much. Then yesterday we witnessed the wonderful atmosphere around Girne harbour and watched the awesome flying display of the Turkish Stars. That was something totally unexpected for us. Just a pity we have to go home for a few weeks to prepare our shipment of goods, but will be back mid September to stay. This really is a dream come true, and yes, we know there will be stumbling blocks along the way abut everything is not perfect anywhere in the world. We are going to enjoy every minute we have been privileged to be given.

How lucky you both are. I do hope you and your husband will settle in and slow down to the lifestyle of NC. I know from friends that there will be a few stumbling blocks along the way but these will be hopefully quickly be overcome. My hubby and I envy you so much. Good luck in your new lifestyle.

Came here with nothing - still got most of it left! Will only leave if we get thrown off the Island. Hard to start and understand the ever changing system but worth any effort you put into it. The place, the people, the weather, the lifestyle - all are wonderful. Found the secret of dealing with life out here but it took us the best part of two years: Breathe in, breathe out - slowly.................... Smile more.

Think about the positive, things always seem greener elsewhere until you get there. I love the people, the sun, fresh food, the sea, the mountains and waking up every morning to the beautiful views. I also feel much safer here than the UK.

I have lived here 3 years today and i have loved every minute of it. My son goes to a very nice school here and he also enjoys it here especially school holidays when we got to the beach water parks and picnics. We are expecting our second child and will be having her here. The quality of life you can not put a price on and the people here are everso friendly. I hope you have many happy years here and if anything does crop up as things always do anywhere in the world, take it with a pinch of salt and take one day at a time.

| Fabulous, we love it, lot's of snags, but who said life was gonna be easy, Lived without elec for 15 mths, but we coped, Taught us not to take things for granted, and now we are so economical with it. Best food (veg bread fruit meat) you could wish for, and if you shop around so cheap, and you can still afford to drink and smoke. What a fantastic life. Long may it cotinue. | I am really glad to see positive threads on here, we bought a villa last August and joined 44 earlier this, and have got to say have got a bit worried when we saw some of the reports on here, I am not saying that there are not problems, but are there not anywhere you go, we have throughly enjoyed our visits to NC, and have met some really nice people, I look forward to visits, and going to parties to meet some of the residents of this lovely island. We do know quite a few TCs in the UK who have relatives out there so we do try to make a point of visiting them, and that way have tried to integrate a bit, and learn more about their culture. Back out in September and cannot wait. |

I. absolutely love my life here and have no regrets about leaving the uk. I look forward to seeing you and Peter soon, when you and our friends have another 'get together' |

Hi suzi I've read lots of posts but do not usually comment, however I wanted to join in on this one as its so refreshing to see so many positive comments. I moved here in January this year and have no regrets so far. We too have always received good service and friendly smiles. We have good neighbours which is great. I miss my children of course but they all have lives to live and are spread around the UK so did not see a great deal of them before but now when I see them it is genuinly quality time. I hope you continue to settle in well. There are a lot of people on the forum with many years experience of life here so I'm sure if you need advice you will find it on here. Have a good life and if your in the Catalkoy area let me know, you would be very welcome if you want to pop in for coffee. Take care Annie x

Hi Suzi, can't begin to tell you how great this place is, yes you will hear all the horror stories ( and read them on here) but like in previous messages in my experience the positives out weigh the negatives, and if you go with the flow and don't expect little britain, it's wonderful.

Hi Suzi and welcome. We moved out here in April and absolutely love it. Our kids in the UK thought that we might be lonely and bored but we have met lots of lovely people and time flies by. If you keep an open mind and accept the quirkyness of the country, I am sure that you too will be happy. Good luck to you both and if you are moving to the Lapta area and looking to make new friends, let me know.

Good to hear you enjoy it here. We moved here 2 years ago and still love it. Yes, we've had our frustrations and problems but on the whole it has been a very positive thing for us and we don't regret it at all. We've made some wonderful new friends - both british and locals and have spent many a happy hour trying to communicate with our new friends - us with our limited but slowly improving Turkish and the locals with their wonderful way of putting things. I can honestly say we've never met a more helpful and kind bunch of people than we have here and we both hate having to go back to the UK on occasion. Yes, we've also met the idiots, drunks and the doom and gloom merchants but it's all so much easier to cope with in the sun and we certainly knew our fair share of those in the Uk as well! Just keep remembering that yes, there'll be bad times but the good times do follow

If anyone read comments in the UK paper last weekend - cannot remember whether it was the Saturday Telegraph or Sunday Times, or Mail but there was an article on the best places to retire to and Cyprus was the first one on their list. it obviously was the South to which they referred, but it could equally have been the North when they compared against their list and definitely for scenery the North would win. Although we are not retired to NC we visit very often and although there are so many moaners on Cyprus44 (who cannot accept they have come to another country and should abide by whatever happens in that country or return to UK) my experience is very very different. People in general are so friendly and genuinely helpful. Other aspects, eg litter is similar to the UK 40 years ago when people just dropped cigarette packets, sweet packets and anything else; we very soon forget what the UK was . I am sure in another ten years things will have changed for the better in this rega

Cyprus is wonderful, i love it for the weather, the clean sea, the friendly people, the fresh food, the great food, the price of gold, I was born in england to turkish cypriot parents and always thought myself to be a brit, but the older i have got my feelings have changed.... cyprus is my homeland....i get emotional flying into Ercan and also flying out, it feels like i am coming home. My son was also born in england and his father is part italian/british and irish...he says he is atrue european, but loves his turkish heritage.... The main reason i think cyprus is wonderful, my mum and dad live there and i get to go and see them whenever i like... enjoy what you have on a beautiful island....

We british seem to be sucked in , we think that because we but abroard there are no pit falls I love the TRNC bought with my eyes wide open, did everthing right got all thr right documentation. If it goes tits up so be it Just enjoy this beautiful part of the world and worry about stuff when it happends then face it head on Cant wait to be here full time |

I love our visits, shame it'll be another 15 years till we retire (very early) there but hey ho no point in wishing our lives away! We're lucky I suppose, got our (shared) deeds last year 4 years after we bought, doubtless we and our neighbours will end up having to parcellise ourselves, and we've got no Tarmac and I doubt we ever will until we put our hands in our own pockets. This doesn't stop us lovin the place though, even though were just swallows. The only negative we feel is the very rare occasion on a night out when we meet the odd over opinionated dyed in the blood anglicised expat who has this chip on their shoulder that "if you don't live here you can't possibly understand what we go through" like it's a penance living there that won't end till they're buried back in blighty. Funny really beacause I've never experienced the same thing of any of the Russians or Germans or London TCs we've met. Apart from that we love the place, but hey? We don't have to live there do we?!!

Hi suzi, Weve been here nearly 3 years and absolutely love it here. We have made some very good friends in our new life, both british and turkish and the lifestyle is second to none. We feel like this is home and have to urge to go back to UK. Our family and friends regularly visit us and we have quality time with them which is great. The locals are hospitable and friendly and we feel very safe here. Our house is wonderful, deeds now ready, and we have the best lifestyle. Of course there are frustrations as there are in any country and people who moan have nothing better to do so ignore them. Im sure you will be very happy here and will have a great life out here. Good luck x

We moved here with our eyes wide open and enough resident friends to know what does and might lie ahead. I have had a negative attitude in the past and was miserable. Now I have a positive one and it really helps me handle any challenges that come my way - and no doubt many will whether I am in TRNC or UK or anywhere else in the world. Anyone with negative thoughts who want to put them on this thread, get off and start your own post - read the title of this one, positive comments only please!

I totally agree with you Suzie, as I said before we went into buying with our eyes open, sure we have had problems nothing serious just the usual poor quality building methods, but we are overcoming them, and the good definately out weights the bad, I think the thread on the fires shows that people can pull together and it will breakdown nationalities, religions and other stupid differences as long as people are prepared to work at it. We love it in NC and cannot wait until our next trip, good on you and keep the positive comments coming.

Hi suzi1951, we just cant wait until we are back over to NC for a break, we do envy those of you who live full time in NC, ... You have the sun most of the year, beautiful scenery, to us its like going back 20 years.... Crime is low, compared with GB, you get things done in NC the same day if you buy goods etc. In GB you have to wait for goods up to six weeks then they come broken and a complaint is delt with via 10 different voice overs so you never get to speak to the right person.. The problems people have had is very different to the probs we have in GB, so just enjoy what you have ..... keep positive, I know I am....

jeffereson 'We are due out at the end of August and this post is just what we need.' Why? Before this post ,what were you afraid of? If people need monthly 'Why I love NC so much' threads to constantly reassure themselves, then maybe they should stay within the comfort zone of the UK.

I love waking up every day here, of course I have had my problems along the way, the same as a lot of people but there is nowhere like Northern Cyprus. In general, the locals are friendly & hospitable and I find that if you treat people how you would like to be treated yourself... you will get along fine.

Dear Suzi, It's so refreshing to read so many positive comments about this wonderful part of the island on which we live. My partner and I have been here nearly 3 years now and have loved every minute of it. Of course we have had the odd problem here and there but have always had lots of support and good advice from our friends and neighbours around us. The TRNC has for far too long been the butt of many lies and nasty (mostly untrue) comments and propaganda. I for one love living here (for far too many reasons which I won't go into on this forum) I wish you and your husband every success in your new and exciting life here. Life is what you make of it - some people would not be happy where ever they lived. x

JKnotintheUK...msg 64 That is totally irrelevant.....some GCs attitude to TCs and the North is another subject altogether. Quarmby was asking for examples of lies and nasty comments from posters on here. It is great to have a positive attitude....but it is foolish to be blinkered to the unpleasant truth about some aspects of NC...particularly the laws regarding property ownership and foreigners.

I think JKintheUK is trying to say to Quarmby that he should be on this link saying positive things - not negative. From the responses here I think 99% of us are extremely happy and contented here and glad to be part of the TRNC. Long may it continue

Quarmby / Cronos - This was supposed to be a "positive thoughts only" forum. Why are you turning this into a negative one. The original quote was " The TRNC has for far too long been the butt of many lies and nasty (mostly untrue) comments and propaganda" this was posted by myself. Quarmby then asked for some examples, which was answered. Note - "THE TRNC" and NOT of this site or this particular forum. Gent's - I notice that your comments on this page have not been very positive at all. such a shame because most people who I know ARE happy and have made (as requested) only positive reports. If you both re read my original posting you will see that I AM making positive comments. My glass if half full.

JK We are not making negative comments re the TRNC, we are simply asking you to reveal the negative lies you claim are being made about the TRNC, quite simply. you still have not revealed them, Why? It was you who brought the subject up , not us.

Suzi In Quarmby's defence. You asked a question, ' How wonderful is North Cyprus?' and then tell people how to answer it. If you know the answer already, why ask the question.? Bit like asking 'How wonderful is Ryan Air ?' Then tell people you only want to hear nice things about them. Instead of asking 'How wonderful is North Cyprus?' Just ask for the reasons why people think it is such a wonderful place. Otherwise we could end up with threads, for example, with someone asking' how easy is property purchase?.Only people who have had no problem ,should reply. The Forum will end as a discussion group and become instead, a place to issue unchallenged statements

Hello Suzi and Hubby, welcome to North Cyprus. We came from South Africa over 2 and half years ago. There is no Utopia, anywhere in the World, but have no regrets at all. People are generally lovely and friendly. Yes there are problems, but we see a huge difference even in the short time we have been here (for the better). Children play safely in the streets and it is great to see that, let alone ourselves who can walk freely with no fear of being attacked. Yes we are probably years behind many countries in the World - maybe that is for the best, when you see what is happening around us. We wish you all the best for you and sometimes, if you do get a little frustrated, look past it and see all the good things about the Country - we think good things will be happening in the future of North Cyprus, they do so deserve it.

| suzi, General strike Monday (denied) Petrol stations closed or 1 hour queues. (denied) memorandums, PTPs on Pre 74 Turkish properties injunctions. mortgages granted by banks without the real owners knowledge. No agreement with the GCs so no one knows who owns what! Contracts not worth the paper that they are written on (quote).Legal profession that does not recognise a Duty of Care or have PI Insurance. Lets just say it has its good points! | Unfortunately John threads do not "belong " to the person that started them. This is a public forum and people are at liberty to comment as they see fit....within forum rules of course. Anyone with a one-sided ,blinkered ,rose-tinted specs approach to North Cyprus could of course start their own blog and filter out any undesirables who wish to relay the truth based on actual personal experience. |

cronos Of course they don't but that shouldn't stop people respecting the purpose of the thread. What is the point of depriving someone of a small pleasure. You could, of course, go off and start a thread "How awful is North Cyprus. Negative thoughts only. Then everyone would be happy and could leave the others in peace. Or, is it so important to impose views on others whan they have expressed a clear wish not to hear them?

Sometimes, people make it clear that just for a short while, they don't want reality, they just want a little pleasure. Why are you so important that you can't respect that and be kind instead of imposing your views. What you did was bad mannered, it is just that you don't know it.

We can all understand that if you have had a traumatic time here you would want to prevent it from happening to anyone else. Thanks to the help and information shared on here, those new people wont have a hard time. Lets not ruin the joy and excitement for them, things may well work out ok if they have listened to you. Your bitterness now makes it sound like you resent their happiness and thats just not fair.

John W.....if people don't want to hear other people's views they shouldn't be on a public forum ! And furthermore,I wouldn't dream of starting a thread as you suggest "How awful is North Cyprus. Negative thoughts only." for 2 reasons: 1 I don't think North Cyprus is awful.....just certain very significant aspects of it. 2. I am not conceited enough to try and impose my own views on a particular thread at the expense of free expression.

What really infuriates me about this thread is not that people have steered away from the subject but that the very person starting this thread is someone who has little experience of living in the TRNC........... according to other threads she is only just taking possession of her property (1 week) and coming back later in the year when her furniture is shipped over! Has she even got her title deeds? Will it descend into very negative posts in 2 - 3 years later when she realises she has paid in full but the builder still owns her property? This is like those on the forum that recommend builders, solicitors and estate agents before they have possession and their title deeds. We all had rose tinted glasses at that stage. It was only years later that our dreams were shattered. Sadly this "economical with the truth" attitude encourages others to buy with a warped view of what might lie ahead. I keep saying this put please keep your views to yourself until you have true experience.

Bradus - I have to say that I agree with your post 91, 100%. I am speaking as someone who has visited this part of the Island for over 21 years and has a holiday home here, with no immediate problems, so have nothing to grumble about, to be honest. However, I have to agree; I know people who have moved here, "lock, stock, etc." and have really made a go of it and have completely become involved with the lifestyle. We are friends with many people and they have gone out of their way to involve themselves in local life and it's worked out perfectly for them. It isn't for me, but it's Horses for Courses. Like you, it saddens me to read the posts of those with "rose coloured specs" (and I do not wish that to sound derogatory in any way), but, as you rightly say, come back on here in two years time and tell us your experiences. I find it a little worrying that the post was headed "positive responses only please". Does that not say it all?

Thanks for your comments folks. I see from some that I am accused of wearing rose tinted specs - well, spider has answered that one. I certainly did plenty of research and got lots of good advice from people other than estate agents and solicitors. As for the builder owning the deeds - that suggests I bought a new build. wrong again folks, I bought a resale and saw the deeds in the vendors name. Realise this does not necessarily mean there will not be further problems, but I am readyt o meet them head on. 38 years teaching teenagers (and surviving) cedrtainly gave me strength! Thanks for the warnings folks, good to know people care. Thanks even more for the welcomes and other positives.

Suzi, You mention that you have already heard all the warnings about buying in North Cyprus. I'm glad to hear it...at least you have then taken them into consideration before planning your move. However,if this forum was full of "positive threads only" then potential buyers would not be similarly armed with all the facts before trying to make an informed decision. Good luck with your move, but please have the good grace to come on here in 6 months...a year...2 years or whenever if you do in fact encounter any of the real problems, particular to the TRNC,that us "doom and gloom merchants" are trying to warn people about.
