Be careful though they are steroid injections and no more than 3 a year should be given. Most chemists(but not all) will give you the warning.

Be careful they can lead to muscle wastage which appears like a small indentation under the site of the injection which is permanent.

Be very careful, I had one 4/5 months ago, although my indentation is quite big and is getting bigger!!! I have been back to the chemist and they said it was a side effect and would get better... no sign as yet

These injections are no longer used in the Uk except in EXTREME cases due to the side effects. Have you tried something like Cetirizine which is a non-drowsy antihistamine? The "normal" doseage is one a day but they are safe in doses up to 4 tablets a day (we used to dispense them for allergy and dermatology clinics in the hospital I worked at in the UK). Maybe try taking one tablet each morning and at night. Chlorpheniramine (Piriton) is a 4 - 6 times a day antihistamine but it can cause really bad drowsiness. It may be worth considering taking it as a night time dose if your allergy is keeping you awake at night. Please re-consider the injection, I know some have had good results but the fact that it's a long acting injection means the side effects are potentially long acting also!

I was given an anti-histamine injection in the uk which caused a most distressing side-effect, I was totally unable to go out in the sun for almost 5 years without breaking out in huge painful lumps all over my body!!!! That particular injection has now been removed from the UK, it was called Migen. Much safer to take the tablets, or suffer a little discomfort from a mozzie bite for a few days!! Believe me it's not worth it!

not sure if available in the UK or any where else I used to have a steroid injection for hay fever but my doctor would only let me have one each summer so I waited until just before the peak of the season. There did not appear to be any side effects it certainly helped me but only lasted about 4/5 weeks which should be enough if you time it right. It sounded like a canine steroid I think it was calle Kenalog or soemthing similar.

Kenalog is the injection given here in TRNC that is rarely used in the UK. If you can manage with antihistamine tablets without too much discomfort then I would advise avoiding having the injection.

The injections can leave to muscle atrophy and that is not pleasant. Cetryn is the Turkish form of Cetirizine, I think. That is the one that works for me. Also using a little machine from Lloyds pharmacy in the UK 3 times a day. In a nutshell it kills the histamines in the nose thus reducing sinus and hay fever effects. Really pleased with the results so far. No headaches hurrah!!!!!
