This is a copy and paste from my post

I have just got home.

Britvic, the fire came within 20 metres of your house, but myself and a small boy of about 13...managed to put out the fire...there were 2 dogs in the garden, scared to death, but i am happy to say, they are now roaming free in Karsiyaka! Don't know if they are owned, or were just hiding out.

Soldiers were bloody marvelous! And so were the local farmers! Farmers came out with their diggers and dug massive trenches, and the soldiers were so blooming calm! 112 came out and administered first aid...i personally helped a boy who had a suspected broken ankle and a few burns...gotten while running away from the fire.

Ambulances and fire engines are still rumbling up and down the village...we have been told by soldiers, to stay in our homes, and do NOT fall asleep....the fire is under control right now..but there is a chance that a new one may start....so...if you live in Karsiyaka...DO NOT GO TO SLEEP TONIG

Tonight a great tragedy has befallen on Karsiyaka. Over 200 donums of land have been destroyed. Thankfully, not too many homes, and no lives have been lost..very few injuries.

The fire is thought to have been started by a simple power surge, power went off for a second, then re-started, causing a spark of electricity....

Everyone turned out to help, and the community spirit was high....absolutely EVERYONE came out to help! What a beautiful selfless community we have in Karsiyaka!!

I personally sprayed water continually on a house that had 2 trapped dogs, as soon as it was safe i opened the gate....they are now roaming the streets of Karsiyaka!

Soldiers have told us that the fires are now under control, however....DO NOT GO TO SLEEP TONIGHT! The wind is high and as is carrying flames with it....

DD

Be vigilant tonight..

God help them all when they see the smoke damage. Bless them, my biggest fear is fire on this lovely Island.

Quite strange really, as the fire was actually by my friend's door,it was actually rife on two sides of her house. It was so close , it burnt their veggie plants, all shrubs and sizzled their furniture cushions. My friend's back actually got a burn on it from the sparks, how the heck the whole lot didn't go up is amazing. Thanks to Kibtek, the fire service and the locals, I still have my friends alive.
