Has anyone had trouble free car hire South to North, likwise anyone had problems, thinking of doing this - picking up at Larnaca, driving North then dropping of at Larnaca Airport.I know we will have to purchase Insurance.

Good and bad experiences only please not opinions.

Thankyou

Hi Woody.

We us Fontana Car Hire been very good allways on time. They informed me they have a break down service in the north but if you have an accident you have to get it back over the bordor dont think it would be a problem. SPUD1

I have used the same company (Fontana) on many occasions and they have never let me down. Good cars and they know I am going North.

Hi,

I have unfortunately booked car hire already in Larnaca through Holiday Autos as I wasn't aware of the restrictions going to the North.

What do I need to get into the north in a hire car?

Also arriving at 16:00 on a Saturday will that pose a problem as I reading about offices closing?!?!

Lastly which border control is best for me to go through from Larnaca to Bellapais?

Thank you

Hi Legend - Metehan or Agios Dometios (Greek version I think) in Lefkosa is the best crossing from Larnaca. Just after the Greek checkpoint you will see a little bunker on the right where you will need to buy TRNC insurance 40€ I think, they don't take Ytl. Then on your left get your passport stamped (some stamp a piece of scrap paper to put in your passport to save any aggro at Larnaca on the way home) and your off!

Be aware of the pitfalls - don't tell your hire company you intend to go to TRNC and if the car cranks to a halt or there is an accident it will cost to get it back south

From Larnaca I always find the crossing from Pyla to Beyermudu (Pergamos) to be the best. Less queues than Nicosia and easier to follow on the map once you cross the green line.

I agree Fontana is a good company to use, and I've never had a problem with them. They'll meet you at the airport with your name on a board VIP style!

Hi,

we are flying out on Dec 10th and land at Larnaca at 7:30pm. We hope to hire a car, cross at Aghios Dometios crossing where we would pay the 'boarder insurance charge'.

can anyone tell me whether the office to purchase the insurance will still be open when we arrive approx

9.00pm?

You guys have probably had this question a millions times..but I'll ask nonetheless.

We are looking for a car hire as a pick up from Paphos town, stay there a couple of days and then go to the north for a week.

We contacted Andy's car hire, and they said they don't allow their cars to go north. Any suggestions?

Is the best course of action not to bother saying anything about heading north?

and one other thing..are there any border crossings over on the west side? (we're heading to Lapta.)

Thanks for all your patience

Don't know the rules, but I thought you would have needed permission from the car hire company. Or if you can get a private car from a friend then no probs! If you are going to Lapta then Metehan crossing (Kermia) is Nicosia is the best way. Fast roads to Nic\osia and a good road down from Nicosia and the new road to Lapta will speed things up. But double check on that permission or you could have a fruitless journey, other than a fun shopping trip in Nicosia south side.

Thanks for the responses..that really does help! No chance of getting a car from a friend, but certainly take the advice on getting permission. We'll check into the banner at the top, but it did not look like they offered anything from Paphos.

cheers!
