Only TRNC citizens can obtain a licence (Police Station). Temporary residents cannot buy a licence ergo they cannot buy an airgun or airpistol.

Dutch, Unless the laws have changed (and they probably have) I managed to get a gun licence. You have to go to the police station explaining why you want one and put it in writing and then wait a month to see if you have been accepted. My Auntie was the British Small Bore Target Champion, so I used that as a lever to get mine in 2005.

RE msg 6, Sideways: I wouldn't be amazed if this TRNC law has changed again..! The best solution to get a licence is probably to visit different Police Stations... One of them may use yesterdays, todays or tomorrows law...

Hi Ian Pls go to any local Gun shops or clubs for the latest info, the police in Girne are very helpfull, but if you require a gun the local gun shop can oil the wheels and get results. Brian

Thanks all, I will give it go. You don't need a licence for an airgun in most civilised countries. I know that you even need one for a chainsaw in the TRNC. You probably need one to go for a cxxp too. If they fall into the category as dog licences I think that I will take the chance without one.

Even an airgun needs a licence and you cannot buy one from a shop without it. Mind you, if I was to sell mine ......................

I have a licence for an airgun. No problems, went to Lapta Police Station and they filled out the form. Took the licence to the gun shop and bought the gun. Before collecting the gun, the shop owner took the licence and details of the gun to Girne Police Station who presumably registered it.

Msg 11. Why does one require a gun licence to operate a chain saw? Bit odd. Chegs

I went to Girne Police Station first (advised by someone in a gun shop) and was told: no way - airgun permits are for TRNC citizens only. |
