Is it possible to hire a driver for the week? Friend of ours wants to use villa but cannot hire a car. It would mean total flexability to drive him and his wife for shopping going out at night and during the day. Must be totally dependable and available when ever they want to go out!! Brend

My friend has a drink -drive conviction and has had his licence back for only 3 years so he doesn't think he will be able to hire a car. Does anybody know if this is the case? (that is why he was looking at hiring a driver) Brend

Car hire companies will only want to see photocard license and passport (not the paper counterpart) It'll be fine! Several large taxi companies that can have a car anywhere in 15 minutes, not a problem.

brend From my knowledge of local driving regulations, any convictions or penalties given in the UK would not be accounted for outside of the UK. This applies for both North Cyprus, the EU and the rest of the world, except for Ireland. So, a driving conviction in the UK would not be "cared" about in the TRNC. Car insurance policies only state that the licence holder must bare a drivers licence that is VALID in the TRNC - and any international driving licence, regardless of the convictions that it has recieved, is valid for use in the TRNC for up to 12 months. This applies to the EU also. Interestingly, If you have a driving ban in the UK and want to hire a car in france, you may do so because there is NO such rule which states that a conviction in one country is valid in the other. For example, (and this is a fact) if you have a driving ban in the UK, you may still drive in other EU countries, with a document given to you by the DLVA upon request. All facts
