I was wondering if the new road to Tatislu from Esentepe has been completed ? The last time I drove it a few months ago there was a large section waiting to be asphalted just before and after you get into Tatlisu which wasn't open and you had to drive a fair distance on dirt road. Thanks Aussie

Thanks Pipie I was wondering since the article in the Cyprus mail last week that they were 1 km from Kaplica if they had finished the earlier sections. I guess they are waiting until the end to asphalt and open it, which given the money appears to have run out could be a long time away. Its a pity given they have done most of the work. Aussie

The road is complete up to the junction with the road up the mountain into Tatlisu village. Its from Tatlisu to Kaplica that has not been done.

When speaking to the Mucktar at Tatlisu , he seemed to think that work would commence on the new road October time , although there is some lorries/rollers /road machinary there at present so maybe it will commence sooner .

Hi everyone Weve just returned and we had to turn off the new road to complete the journey to Kaplica. 4x4 is a must if you try the journey but village is very quaint. Jj

| I agree you don't need a 4 x 4 but its rough going and lost a couple of wheel covers once at very low speed too. I never understand why they didn't just concentrate on finishing one of these projects at a time such at the Bypass in Girne to Alsancak or this project instead of continually starting new ones (such as the Nicosia/ Guzelyurt dual carriageway) and leaving these unfinished. | Jan jin What advantage do you think a 4 x 4 has over any strudy 2 wheel drive car when tackling a level(ish) unfinished but graded harcore road? It's hardly serious off-roading! Anyway half the 4 x 4's for rent here are unsuitable for any real off-roading.. i.e. Suzuki Jimny et al... they are "soft-roaders"... easy to turn over and jittery as hell... |

Hi Groucho, From personal experience of the trip to Kaplica, the journey was lumpy and we were in a Range Rover! The new road was blocked off by a load of gravel. Just getting on to the new road needed a high axel as that had a bank of gravel as well. If we could have stayed on the new road is was level, the getting on and off was another matter. Worth the effort though. Jj

OK Groucho But then would we eat anything, go any were, drive any were, etc if we looked everything up? The Range Rover ride was a great day out organised by a fine Turkish friend. Take care J
