Has anyone, (or anyone you know,) who has SKY Multiroom permanantly in two different countries, ever received the "Dreaded Letter" because they did not have both boxes connected simultaneously to their UK landline?

If not, how long have you (or they) been getting away with it, as I think the risk may be worth taking?

Thanks.

Have Sky Multiroom in the UK. If one of the boxes fails to make it's call-back in something like four weeks, you'll get a letter. It's a totally automated monitored system - if they don't all call-back regularly from the same number, you'll get a letter.

6mm,

About time Sky got with it, if they reduced prices most of us using 'Illegal' systems might buy into sky also a lot of people who cancelled sky might go back to tham. I left sky in uk 8 years ago due to excessive pricing, they tried to keep me by giving me 50% of for 3 mths. I used that then told them to get lost. To many businesses overprice their product by reducing they would sell more, still get income they wanted and hopefully have a lot more satisfied customers.

You give a lot of sound advice, but unless things beome more affordable they will lose more and more customers.

If you have multiroom are you contracted to have it plugged into the pone line for the contract period ?

This would be 12 months then can you unplug the phone line & bring over here would this be the answer being foolproof?

Multiroom contract requires both the boxes to be connected to the same phone line all the time.

There is no other way SKY can make sure they are used as intended.

Unplugging from phone line after 12 months only apply to boxes subsidized by SKY (this rule does not cover either of the multiroom boxes)

I know a few people over here, who have never had the letter. Perhaps they have just been lucky?

Texas

I also know few people who never had letter, but at the same time know more than few people who had..

I suppose its a risk every individual (who considers bringing one from UK) has to take.

I know of a guy ( living near Ayia Napa ) who had had SKY and SKY digital since day one and got a letter to his UK address, out of the blue.. he had had M/room for three years ! They wanted to back date the second full sub three years :o

He took his box back and plugged it in - waited six months and brought it out for the winter - 2 months into the winter he got the first letter, again and an offer for a SKY Engineer to visit to check the line..

I know someone near to be who has a place in Portugal - they got SKY ( five months ago) and phone and ADSL from them and took the second box to Portugal... they got a msg aon the screen saying 'wrong card for this set top-box.. They called SKY from a UK mobile and SKY fixed it, but they were asked - are you calling from abroad....? NO they replied... When they returned home.. they had the dreaded letter.

SKY can tell if you are calling from abroad and can even see your ID a withheld tel number !

Juliamoons.

I have a UK Skype number. The first few times I called SKY they asked me all the usual security questions.

However, the last few times I called, they knew who I was just by my caller ID.

So, yes, you can call SKY using a UK Skype number, wherever you are!

One last thing. Maybe I asked a stupid question in message 1. Those that are able to get Multiroom out here, may not be willing to admit it on a public forum. Their email address (which SKY have) may be visible.
