The Address on Lapta Rd. also does excellent authentic meze & lovely breads. St. Kathleen's meze also good, and can recommend Bizim Han, (took friend there earlier this month & she most impressed) if you want local food. You could also try the Turkish version of pizza - pide!

Niazi's for me, central, great service and great food. The owner just arranged a long distance surprise dinner for about 8-10 persons, he took charge and all I did was pay for it (or I will when he asks )from Los Angeles. I will tell you how it all went when I hear from the guests.

opposite Niazi's is their own fish restaurant the name of which I forget, but it has the same formula as Niazi's just fish. Thanks to those who suggested Green Valley restauarant, Karajaac, had a very good meal there on Tuesday night.

Last week, I had been to Niazi with a friend and the service was appalling. When we arrived, the plates were dirty and not washed properly. I asked the waiter to change it which he did. Then one of the changed plate had food stains on it. While I was waving to the youngish waiter, he ignored me. Then I saw the other waiter who came promptly to enquire. Meanwhile the youngish waiter rushed towards us very impolitely, said something in Turkish, picked the plate from other table and replaced it. And on top of it, they didn't have the serviettes on the table. So, I had to get up and pick it up from the other table and the guy who was serving food apologised. I had been to Niazi before and I like it there. But throwing attitude and not looking after the customer is not going to help them win customers! Hope they realise that! Not going there again, sorry.

Yummies for pizza!!! Awesome! Next to Astro supermarket, the one in Kyrenia. And Niazis is brilliant. Especially the one at the harbour, the take away one up the road is good and although cheaper, its better down the front. The full kebab and mazes are delicious!

We used to be regular visitors to Niazis but don't go anymore. The full kebab used to be amazing but the last 2 visits we were given a minute plate of chips between four people and a salad with one piece of tomato and one cherry tomato between four. How can you share that???? We asked for more chips and salad and eventually these did arrive but the waiter made it very clear that he thought we were being unreasonable asking for them. On our last visit I ordered a steak with vegetables and had almost finished eating when the potatoes arrived even though I asked the waiter 3 times. for them The place seems to have gone to the dogs since Hamit (the head waiter) left and we certainly won't be going back. There are loads of other places to eat which are better value.

Niazis in Kyrenia, has really gone down hill in the last 6 months, I used to go reg but not any more. Archway in Zeytinlik is far superior, food, service and staff are all top quality. Give it a try and you wont be disappointed.

Peanuts, think they still do pizza and nice views as well. There are a couple of restaurants together down the road from Niazi near the posh hotel? (name escapes me) swimming pool. They are next to the water and one does good pasta so expect pizza as well. Col

I'm afraid I have to agree with those that mention the poor service at Niazi's in Girne harbour. We went as we always do when we wanted to treat ourselves. It was mid week, early evening and not busy, yet my wife & I were treated as if they were doing us a favour because we hadn't booked. I agree about the small portions and poor service. We felt ignored by the waiters and my wife's steak not cooked properly. I'd finished by the time it came back. No apology. It was also very expensive. Real shame as we have had great times there. We wont be going back.

Yep, have to agree with the negative reports on Niazi's. We used to go regularly and take visitors and friends but the last time we went the service was poor, as were the portion sizes but they did bring extra out when we asked but the crunch came when we asked for coffee and brandies after and were charged for them. Unfortunately we were taking some friends for the first time and needless to say that neither our friends or us have gone back. And yes we did tell them that we were unhappy with the service and portion sizes and they just shrugged their shoulders!

Was highly surprised by the comments on Niazis Resturant, Have been coming to Northern Cyprus for fifteen years as a holiday maker, an now i am a resident, Have eaten in various resturants in and around the harbour and not one of them comes up to the standards of Niazis, Excellent Food, Excellent Service, Good portions, so was very shocked to see some comments made on here! Because Niazis is the best, the expectation is very high! Afew mistakes are allowed! As far as myself, my wife, family and friends are concerned Niazis will always be the best resturant on the island.

sunny1, Just as a matter of interest, when was the last time that you actually ate there? I agree with you that Niazi's was always excellent in every respect (except that when they were busy, the service was perhaps a little too prompt as they tried to get you out of the door quickly, so that they could use the table again!) However, if other people think that standards ARE actually falling, then I would be interested to hear of your recent experiences. Keith.

I agree with Keith. I began also 15 years ago going to Niazis and our first experience was an excellent night out but we were taken by a TC. The next time we went(during the same holiday) it was small portions and were almost treated like we were invisible. We took some guests of ours also and were treated appauling for a restaurant, asked to move our table whilst eating our food to accommodate a family of TC who had a baby in a pram and they were insistent that the pram be placed at the end of the table. Never went back. They make it obvious that you are just a number to fill the tables when it suits. Tree of Idleness is exactly the same when they have their entertainment they place you outside and only the locals are placed at the good tables. Experienced that as well. Its nothing knew its all being going on for years.

My son went there last year (on my recommendation) about late September, and he had to asked for his chips (he ordered steak) when they came he had finished his steak and they were served a small side plate!! At the next table 2 people that arrived quite a few minutes after my son got a huge platter of chips WITH their meal !!! It is not very good service - don't they realise that people just won't go back?

We will be visiting Niazis again, thankyou to everyone. |

In the summer months Niazzi's go into meltdown. I had heard so much about this restaurant, I went there with my family. It was total chaos. The food tasted great, when it showed up, but the staff were not professional enough. After half the family were served the waiting staff were called away to attend some 'dignitary' and we were left staring at the others eating. Of course, its who you know I suppose. I felt like a stranger there. Not good business. The res of my stay in Kyrenia, I had my dinners at the Cafe Chimera.(under the castle). At least there was no pretence and the staff were very good. No touting either.

Went there last night, very busy but excellent serviceand excellent meals. My Son asked for additional side helpings and was given them without hesitation, even offered complimentary drinks afterwards. If some people complain on this board about the service, surely you have a tongue in your head and complain!

Yes I do have a tongue in my head and yes I have complained on numerous occasions but some people never learn from their mistakes. We used to go there twice a week when we were on holiday here and have been many times since we moved here..... but never again! They don't deserve our custom. What sort of restaurant serves a rump steak cut into a round steak and tries to pass it off as a fillet steak? Do they think we are stupid? This has happened twice to me! There are many more lovely restaurants here where the service and food are excellent. Niazis I fear is living on its past reputation.

it is called mirage, it has a cafe part down stairs and restaurant upstairs.( upstairs is better) from girne to lefkosa main road to the roundabout, turn right, set of light at a roundabout and turn left, as if you were going to metehan crossing, about 2 kilometres on that raod on the right hand side. its on a corner. if you get to the new monument then you have gone to far. i hope that helps, enjoy.

Roisin it's in the road that leads to the roundabout where you turn right to go to the Metehan crossing. If you were coming from Kyrenia over the mountain to Nicosia turn right at the big roundabout then left at the traffic lights and it is down this road with the speed bumps about half way down on the right hand side.

I am shocked with all the negative views about Niazies, I have always had great service and excellent food. It bothers me about these comments as if you look around Girne and surrounding places you will always guarentee a full restuarant at Niazies, does that not speak for its self, they must be doign something right as it is the only resyarant I have been to that if you don't book you can't guarentee a seat, which again tells you that it has to be one of the bes places in town. No I am not on commission before someone makes a remark about my opion

Naizis - went there last week. Table was booked for 8 pm, when we arrived head waiter did not acknowledge our reservation but led us instead to a 'holding pen' at the back - this was chaotic and very busy. I have seen happier waiting rooms at the dentist. We again told him we had booked a table after alot of huffing and puffing we were taken to a table outside that sat six - we are a couple. After twenty minutes our order was taken then another long wait for our drinks. By now our other table guests had arrived four locals whose order was taken straight away. We were then drip fed our full kebab experience - limp salad, usual dips, halloumi that tasted like it had been covered in petrol and ignited followed by some greasy donner kebab. Next up came the Kofta which was awful. After an hour and a quarter of this we abandoned all hope of completing the full kebab experience so gave up, got the bill and left. Don't go there - it's an over rated tourist trap.

I think possibly one of the best full Kebabs in TRNC, has to be Fast Food in Alsancak, Most of the time it is so busy the quality speaks for it,self Don,t hesitate to ask for extra, bread, dips etc, Oh and try there homemade garlic dip, and chilli sauce, and the moms, pickle, Get there early because the lamb and Chicken Donna normally sells out.

Hi babs1, We always used to go to Niazi's when we came out on holiday. Hamit made us extremely welcome, the food was fantastic and the service wonderful. We've stopped going there because it's turned into a typical tourist trap - overpriced with terrible service and average food. If your sprog wants English-style pizza, rather than pide (Turkish pizza - try it, it's great!) I can't fault Pomodoro, near the main Lefkosa roundabout in Girne, although I must admit that Manipenny's and the Five Fingers restaurant come close; ask Alex at the Five Fingers for a Five Fingers pizza. You'll love it. But the first time we went to Pomodoro the words "Would you like stuffed crust?" brought tears to our eyes. And they deliver!

Couldn't agree more about Pomodoro's. Not only pizzas but great pasta and salads too. A varied menu with something for everyone - their chips and their coleslaw take some beating!
