I have heard a rumor that is exceptionally hot this year. The weekend just gone was epic??? How hot is it really, i am struggling to appreciate it from my aircon office in the UK where all the women clain to to be cripplingly hot...... actually 19 degrees i think. Is it the air temp or the humidity that does it?????

Has been exceptionally hot & still very humid for 5 days now. It's the humidity that does you in. It's exhausting. Also no let up at night either. Liken it to being on the London underground on the hottest day of any summer at 5pm without a/c. for 2 solid months. How anyone working in an aircon office in UK. can claim to be hot beats me. Send them out here to try "hot." Btw I used to work in London 10 yrs ago & some of the time in an office without aircon. but with masses of PCs. That was very hot sometimes in summer. Believe or not this was due to London Electricity not being able to supply enough electricity to the Office block & insufficient for A/C units. This happened for 2 yrs before being sorted & was in SW1. Hard to believe, but true.

I was told today last Sunday was the worst at 40 degrees at some point. It's meant to get gotter this week. There's more cloud this past week but that seems to be locking in the humidity, not bringing any nice cooling air. Told it should be around 46 tomorrow in Nicosia!

The humidity with the heat in Cyprus in recent years seems to be far in excess of what is was in the 1960s and 1970s when the climate must have been one of the best in the world and the air everywhere was clean with the smell of pine, particularly after rain. For unbearable heat, humidity, and biting insects try the jungles of South America particularly on parts of the Amazon !

This is bad but I have been here a long time, and it does get to 50c with 99%humidity. And when the minsteral winds come they will defrost your freezer if doors are open. Lovely cant wait. Last night we held dance class and after two hoyrs we all looked like a wet tee shirt compitition. MUST BE MENTAL

I was here in Famagusta in 1976 (yes, after the occupation, on business) and it was worse than this, just. Been retired here for just over 7 years and this current weather the worst in that time. Things can only get better folks, and they will. Just put some extra pennies aside for your next electric bill (although we had a power cut most of yesterday) Geoff Famagusta City
