hi coming to n cyprus very soon with my family and a friends family, does any one do free pick ups as long as you stay in this particuliar establishment most of the night?i think it would be good business sense as kyrenia area is very wide open in terms of travelling and before you say "get a taxi" i dont mind getting taxis but it can add up if your staying for 2 weeks.let me know what you think?

how would a resturant or bar , if they paid for your taxi know if you are gonna stay ,also if you do not like the place after arriving would you pay for the taxi.... if you had a bad time would you blame the taxi or the venue ,

Patina do a pick up from Jasmine Court and I think most of the restaurants in Bellapais do a free taxi service but you have to wait until they are ready to leave to bring you home

Maybe you could negotiate with your local taxi driver for a 'special discounted' rate if you used him every night? Bulk buy, so to speak? After all, you are likely to need a taxi to get home from where ever and it would give you the flexibility to go whereever you wanted rather than be limited to only to only those who would offer transport? Also, if you're watching your pennies, how about alternating a take-way kebab- style/turkish pitta meal with the more formal sit-down meals as this would save you so much on those 'budget' nights that you would have more to spend on taxis and the other more expensive nights. Just a thought! Susie

Hi Dash70 re message 10. Unfortunately Dash being an OAP my wife and I live, like most, on a limited, indeed dwindling pension, that said I do not expect hard working restaurant and bar owners to subsidise my holiday/life style. Could you answer me this: When was the last time in the UK, a bar or restaurant provided a taxi FOC so you could spend time in their establishment ? When was the last time anywhere in the World, has a bar or restaurant provided a taxi FOC so you could spend time in their establishment ? I would wager the truthful answer would be NEVER. regards Doug

We were picked up from the "Kybele" restaurant in Bellapais last August from Pia Bella with another couple(didn't know them) and dropped back when we were ready to go(on our own) no charge but obviously wouldn't know if this was included in the price of the meal. Done for us on the night.

Doug. We go to a cafe/bar in Cesme in Turkey and everyone in there in the evening are taken back to their Hotel whatever time they want to leave. And if you are in there during the day and ask you can be picked up as well no charge and at the end of the holiday we always get a little present. Torros the owner knows he will get the custom and is full everynight and only closes when the last person leaves.

Dash 70, You asked, but I agree with dougskud. You sound cheap to me. You're here for two weeks and not getting a rental car or something?! I was surprised to hear that a few were privy to this type of accommodation. I do enough charity. This service is not free. I BETTER not be paying for it that's for sure. I work hard enough. I do not mind paying for a great meal and leaving a better than decent tip. But if the cost of picking your cheap butt up is in included in with my entree....let me just say thanks for pointing this out to me. I'll be sure to watch where I eat, and what services they provide for the miser. Then I'll decide if it's worth spending my money there. Tsk tsk.

Mollycorbin, we had a hire car for the week, but we don't drink and drive so it served our purpose. I do not believe it adds that much to a cost of a meal especially to restaurants like the Kybele.

I think its a bit harsh beating Dash up for asking a question. Its the restaurant owners business decision to provide transport, no one forces that decision. Perhaps they believe that they are financially better off to offer this service than have a car park full of hire cars with one diner on each table nursing a solitary drink, ensuring that they are within drink/drive limits. I for one would spend a great deal more on Efes during an evening than a cab fare/mini bus. I suggest those moaning on this thread had better carry on nursing their warm Efes and let the restaurant owners do as they please........

I think restaurant / bar drop off and pick up is a great idea! Hey - maybe the fellas who come to pick me up will also clean my villa, do a load of laundry, and walk my dogs too! Oh - including a babysitter would be just brilliant! Wiping my bum may be going a tad too far - but I am sure some of you expect that as well. Really guys - Dash solicited these responses. I do not see Dougskud and MollyCorbin advocating drinking and driving! As MollyCorbin noted - the service is not free - the establishment will make it up somewhere. This all sounds like a case of being ''Penny wise, pound foolish''. The only, "moaning on this thread" that I see is being done by the cheapskates. When drinking -what is wrong with hiring a cab and helping out the local economy anyway?

Sam Adams why would I hire a taxi when we have already rented a car for a week(put in the economy there)and stayed at the Pia Bella (put into the economy there), went to other restaurants in the area(put into the economy there)if the offer is there for a restaurant to pick you up then take it. Hardly cheapskate at a meal for 2 costing around 135TL. Your making too much of what are reasonable replies to a service that some restaurants want to give. There's no problem with it. I had a restaurant in NC and if someone needed a lift back(within reason) we would do it. Kybele restaurant is somewhere special to go and you would expect to pay a little more anyway even if they did not provide the service. You wouldn't expect all restaurants to do it.

the idea of minibus pick up did not come from dash.it was a service that was provided to him on a recent visit.it is as already stated an issue to the bar owner if it is in his interests to get more people in his bar drinking and eatingand generally spending in that bar .also i would say yes some bars and nightclubs and resteraunts do offer this service in england.can they make it i am not sure .continue drinking your warm beer guys

hi dougskud, re message 12, seems like i hit a nerve. Just returned back from TRNC and had a wonderful holiday. The majority of people that have answered my question are positive as people who like a few alcoholic drinks with there meal seem to think it would be agreat idea.it would cut down on drink drivers and it would improve the restraunters/pubs trade in terms of profit which they badly need. to answer your question:the trnc is not the uk they need tourism which this type of service would help to encourage holidaymakers like myself. regards dash 70

dougskud msg 12. A pub/restaurant not too far from where I used to live in the UK bought an old red london bus for taking all the locals home at the end of the night. It was a bit out of the way though in the countryside.
