Hi Guys, our pool (which is almost finished) comes with a 1 year guarrantee. I 've just been told that the guarrantee is only effective if we take a 1 year maintainance contract out with the pool company which is pooland. It say's nothing of this in the contract. Has anyone else came accross this? John.

Yes we had the same. The argument would be that if someone else looks after they may do something that has a detrimental effect on the equipment. Col

Hi, This is common practise but I think you will find that the guarantee is for the pump only the structure of the pool should come under the guarantee of the house itself but do check

be wary , the garantee only covers pump filter equiment, if there are to be any problems it will be with the construction, of pool / balance tank, get them to fill pool and check over a week or two pool and balance tank i have heard and seen some horrific tales, i do know the engineer on pooland and he is very good he knows his job . best of luck hope everything turns out ok

Our pool guarantees come in two parts: 1 year for pool equipment (pump, controls, lights etc.) 5 years for structure (leaking, patio subsidance etc.) It is common for pool constructors to insist on being awarded the first years maintenance, but our view is that, provided the maintenance firm is a recognized company and not "a bloke I know who will do it for me as a favour", we have no issue with it. Many resident new pool owners want to do their own maintenance and we will happily provide tuition for those that do, whether we built their pool or not.

Remember the old adage-you pays for what you get so don't always go for the cheapest nor indeed the most expensive. Octopus Pools have a good reputation.

I didn't say I was looking for the cheapest, just a reliable and realistically priced pool. or am I the only person in northern cyprus to be quoted over the odds for everything and most of it is poor quality, "No on second thoughts Please don't answer this" ( Smart arses) Anyway apart from everything in trnc taking for ever and a day, I'll be happy when its all finished.

i ordered and paid 18,000 from kensington development group for my pool and it was built by cyprus pools. it was filled for the first time on july 17th 2007. it has been using 4 tons+ of water a week even though it has been scrupiously maintained. i`ve complained to both companies mentioned by e-mail as i`m in England and i`ve been ignored by both. i don`t reccomend either of them and it looks like i`m faced with a 4 grand repair.

We took over our house in July with a 10 x 5 overflow pool. Since then it has used about 60 tonnes of water. 7 out of 8 on our development are leaking, the only reason I dont know about the 8th is that it hasnt neen filled. The developers had the pool builders back in July to one house where they stripped back to below 3 tiles down and rebuilt it. Last week it was down again by about half a metre. I too have been told that using another pool maintenance company will negate the guarantee. If the pool is not mended properly very soon, I will give notice of intention tohave it done by my own people and wait the 3 years or so for a TRNC judge to decide who is paying for it!

Tell your builder to take a hike - ours tried the same Our pool was leaking like a sieve - the builders recommended company would no-doubt have topped it up on the quiet, until we had made our final payment, then we would have been stuck with a leaky pool. We used Pooland for 6 months, and are happily now with Octopus Mark

Hi TRNC Vaughan. Think you are on the wrong developement as we have only 8 houses- Crystal Bay Breeze next to Bahceli Villas and carrington beach developement top of hill from Crystal Bay. Evergreen say they are sending a new guy to look at them but nothing has happened yet. You may wish to contact Senay Adali who is a partner and is overseeing this problem on 05428582241. Ours is leaking in different places and the quote for doing the whole lot , stripping down completely is horendous but is definately worth suing for if we have to do it ourselves.

Hi breezyboy, If your builder/developer can treat you that badly, what might he do to us? We did some new work and repairs for a Turkish developer last year and he tried to pull our pants down! We got our money eventually, but it confirmed what we should have known. We have almost completed a 22m x 7m communal pool for an English developer and that hasn't been a load of fun either. Now, we insist on stage payments, in advance not arrears, when we build a pool and we don't do repair work for third parties. When we repair a pool it's for the end user and he gets the bill.
