Hi Gillken,

Our pools are considered by some to be expensive, and we lose a lot of work because of that. Thats OK with us as we won't compromise on quality, so we can't compromise on price. We put the extra we charge into the pool we build and not our pockets. Steel has gone up drastically these last 12 months and now stands at $1000/tonne more than it did then. We put about 5 tonnes of steel into our 8x4m pools (many others only use 3 or 4 tonnes) and this rise in the price of steel has put $5000 on the COST of a pool that we build. We also use the best grade swimming pool concrete we can buy and all our mechanical & electrical equipment is Astral, made in Spain/Italy and not Chinese/Turkish like many others use. We triple insulate our pools before tiling, with the top coat being two-pot epoxy which goes off like plastic. Our pools are built like the proverbial brick outhouse and do not leak.

Our view is that your pool is a major purchase which you will not be able to take back to the shop to get your money back if you are not happy with it.

We don't build cheap pools, we build pools that our customers consider good value for money.

It's been under construction for a while as it's not a high priority. We keep changing content as well with new products and developments. Are you just curious or are you a website developer?

Pool is luxury if you want real pool you should use best material. So if you want to build 8*4 pool it's price is 17000stg. or if you want to use normal stone on your pool 15000 stg for8*4 pools. Do not build a pool before visiting tunalı construction. info@tunaliinsaat.com

Octopus pools is one of the only Pool construction companies I have ever meet in TRNC which takes the pool building subject so serious. I have worked with many, also Big TRNC names and also the very cheap builders. Beware. Compare the written technical and price offers, compare the concrete used and the steel ammount. Also Pumps, filters and pipes should all be in the right size! Most companies use to small filters, crap pumps, non closing and cheap valves and much tooo small pipes. Take your time.. We have just renovated an old pool 4x10 and it cost us 6500STG! (New Steel frame, concrete, sealing and tiles)

My next pool will be defenitively be a Octopus build Pool with a chemical free NECON system.

If you believe what you hear then all TRNC companies are in trouble. Did you see any accounts? Dont always believe what you hear, TRNC is small and some try to get their competitors down by negative press.

What you could do is stage payment. Agree to a start up sum of 3000-6000 stg ? Then you pay as you see the progress. But there is ALWAYS a risk in Cyprus. Which company are we talkin about as there are 3- 4 companies above..

10 by 5 pool should cost around 15000 stg with a two metre terrace all round. I built my pool 12 by 6 kidney shape for 19000 stg but used high quality products. I would say get recommendations and go and have a look at pools old and new and dont give too much money up front

That sounds good value. I have been quoted substantially more than that. Are you happy with the pool and can you recommend the builder as I am looking to build an infinity pool at the moment?

Hi Vaughan,

We have been thinking for some time now about building a 5 * 10 overflow pool. From your comments about increased material costs we are wondering whether this can still be done for a budget of around £15k? Would it cost much more to make an infinity pool?

Hi ,

We are looking to build a pool and are VERY keen to get it right! Can I ask if you are happy with your pool and if you would recommend the builder? It would be very helpful to know which other pool builders you approached and the reasons why you decided to opt for the builder who built your pool.

Hi James,

With the current price of steel and concrete, you will be looking to pay about £18k for an 8x4m pool and about £22k for a 10x6 pool. We can build you a pool with an infinity edge at no extra cost. All prices are subject to survey.

Here is an Australian add for pools:

WOW, a fully built concrete pool for $21,890 with heating, lighting and automatic cleaner - FREE.

What's included in this deal

8m x 3m re-inforced concrete pool

Fully built on standard site

Individually designed

Engineer specifications and council plans

Pebblecrete interior

Filter pump and handover kit

PLUS $5000 worth of solar heating, underwater light and automatic pool cleaner - FREE!

My Australian dollar to £ conversion puts this price at just over £8500 - why do they cost so much more in NC?

we are looking to built our own next year. the costs of both metal and concrete have gone up this year. hence the pool construction costs are quite high.

My quote was for today's price in Australia. I know they have lots of natural resources, but it seems to me that the NC price is still too high. I would have thought that labour cost in NC would balance out quite a bit of the materials cost.

I thought that perhaps the major difference was that in Australia many people have pools whereas in NC it is mostly the people who have moved in from other countries - hence the builders price the pools higher.

Hi Neil27,

Our material costs here would seem to be much higher than in Australia.

Steel for example is one of Australia's biggest exports and I imagine concrete costs must also be cheaper. Australia will have a much larger market for pools and will have a homegrown pool equipment industry, whereas we must import everything. Everything which is imported here attracts loads of tax and duty, as we all know, from tins of beans to cars.

I can assure you that our profit margins are not responsible for the difference in price - I wish they were.

Thanks Vaughan,

Presumably that will include terracing around the pool? Also would there be VAT to pay in addition (if so what % is it in NC?).

Cheers

Does anyone have any idea how much it costs for a 8 X 4 lined swimming pool compared with a tiled one the same size.

Cant decide which one to choose.

Liner pools are cheaper than tiled concrete pools. Fords are cheaper than BMW's.

A lot of suburban backyard pools in Australia are now fiberglass which is a lot cheaper but not as attractive as a good concrete tiled pool.

Also I wonder how many former UK and other cold country residents realise what a long term expense and maintenance hassle having a private pool is. Not to mention the amount of water required to keep it going in a dry country. In Australia you get a lot of people filling in or getting rid of backyard pools due to the cost, lack of use after a while and risk of drowning for Children etc.

With the sea so close and/ or the option of shared pools I think this makes a lot more sense. Personally I would avoid buying or renting any Villa with a private pool for these reasons.
